Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

The laid off employee's pledge

Teradata was a great product and it is now ruined by mismanagement. As a laid off employee, I pledge to actively recommend the decommissioning of Teradata systems at my next and all subsequent places of work and to actively convince my professional network to not consider Teradata for their future analytics requirements. Upvote to take the pledge

This pledge is pretty meaningless, because no company wants a new teradata install.

We all know the definition of crazy, doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result? Agree top leadership should be fired and new blood brought in that have executed a similar business model successfully and have scaled the organization beyond expectations!

Guarantee next year at this time it’s the same sh*t show or a new CEO is coming in to save the day!

Relived to be moving on to greener pastures and sanity!

Beat wishes for the fallen

Let’s not forget to remove the inexperienced yo yos that are now running the internal training org and customer education. Is it any wonder customer education is trying to give away training now? Their inexperienced leader has no clue how to grow the business and in a few short years has gone from 11 million in revenue to under 2 million. She spent her first 18 months whining about her lack of experience and hid under the excuse of inheriting a team she knew nothing about. Yet, there she is still employed and still trying to figure it all out. This is the new norm of Teradata; inexperienced managers that are not leaders.

Don't forget marketing and public relations. LOTS of useless deadweight.

Fire the entire top management in Teradata first. Once you have done that may be we can hire some good people who know what they are doing to help Teradata. Some of the guys are running empires without bringing any value to the company. If you want I can provide names of those guys on sales and PS. The CEO should fire the top management and save the $$. Firing experienced engineers is a bad strategy which hasn't worked for past years. Those experienced individuals who were let go are helping customers move out of Teradata at a faster pace.

"The author's intent is not vendetta against Teradata. The decision to explore alternatives are already being made by large organizations at higher levels. . . . Are you serious?

"As a laid off employee, I pledge to actively recommend the decommissioning of Teradata" sounds exactly like a vendetta. The author is activey recommending the decommissioning of Teradata, not offering to assist companies in moving off of Teradata, who have independenltly decided to do so.

The author's intent is not vendetta against Teradata. The decision to explore alternatives are already being made by large organizations at higher levels. It isn't 2006 anymore, where you could rely on "floorsweeps", multi-year managed services contracts, ps engagements around workload optimizations, selling unity loader c-ap. The author may be implying that there is lack of deep talent in fully understanding what it takes to move off Teradata, and that he would assist in that process. If that puts food on his table and provide for his family, while senior management in Teradata continues to dodge every single RIF, then you have to do what you have to. Something that Teradata considers worthless may be considered valuable by someone else.

"Very proud of the 4 top 50 customers I have gotten to dump tdc." I'm calling BS on this. Care to name names and who they moved to?

clearly we all feel the same way on being laid off... but your way of thinking went bonkers already!

i definitely agree with everyone here, integrity and positivity should come first.

So my advice is drink a tea and have a good rest.

When you wake up, find a new job and your life's worth

I do not share the pledge but definitely share the anger. Gave big chunk of my professional life to this company and this is the outcome. grrr

I'm not a Teradata fan either, but why would you make decomissioning Teradata your work life's goal? First, in doing so, Teradata will remain alive and well in your head. Second, what if for a client in your future positions, Teradata is the right recommendation? Would you not pursue the best interests of your client merely to avenge your Teradata grudge. Anger is valid, but not at the expense of your integrity.

This post is so cringy. I don't think you can succeed anywhere with this kind of attitude and negativity. If you feel like this company failed you, how are you so certain that the next company you join won't fail you. It's all bussiness to them at the end. All I can say is just be loyal to yourself and be positive. It will help you and people around you.

Holding grudges doesn't help the people that remain, nor does it help you. Best to focus on the positives and the future.
