Here's a contrarian view to the original post from an author who is obviously on hallucinogenics:

Reasons why Google should not buy IBM:

  1. Google is already signing large deals with IBM’s clients on their own merits. The cloud client base for IBM is declining not growing or even holding steady. Why but a company with dwindling client base?
  1. Google will inherit the toxic IBM culture of bloated near-sighted leadeship and top heavy high-level powerpoint technical teams that will clash with their intense forward looking and deep technical culture. This will weaken Google as compared to their competitors (AWS and Azure). The overhead is not worth it.

Google does not need IBM’s client base. They can easily tap into Oracle’s client base through Thomas Kurian, their Cloud Head. And they are.

Tqw You are correct no one wants IBM lock stock and barrel, BUT Google needs to grow their cloud, and they are very short of time. IBM has the relationships with enterprise customers and If Google was to go after IBM, the enterprise customers would be the reason Redhat would just be gravy on the top. Leverage your way into the enterprise via buying the relationship, then expand that via using it as a catalyst to grow your cloud.

No one is buying IBM whole. One of the Indian bodyshops might take GTS/GBS and lots of places would be interested in RH, but then what?

Agree with selloff but i doubt fb would be interested.

Goog is better bet as they'll benefit largely from those enterprise customers.

I don't see anything happening under arvind because he is same as ginni basically except he realized mainframe and it's customers are cash cows but it's too late.
