Thread regarding Sears layoffs

I'm starting to think Sears is indestructible

Yes, more and more stores are closing every month, we are getting less and less inventory, the stores are falling apart... And yet Sears is still standing. After years of speculations if it'll be gone this year or next year, this month or next month, it's still standing. I'm not kidding, just look at this page. Go back three years ago and you'll see the exact same discussions and same predictions of "this is Sears' last year."

I'm starting to believe a few of us will still be here ten years from now wondering when the last three Sears and the last Kmart store will finally close...

There’s probably some legal precedents in regards to the remaining hometowns forcing them to march on for a while at least to avoid lawsuits. If you want to figure out try and track down each hometown state by state and see what the contractual obligation is to support them after his buyout. Also track down every property they pay a lease on and see if they can sublease it and are paying below market. Keeping the lights on at stores they can’t immediately sublease he can write off as a business expense or loss against his other holdings. Then see if there are any statutes in regards to his purchase of all the stores in regards to shareholder lawsuits. My guess is some combination of these is why the stores are open.

We are in our death rolls and have been for some time now. I don’t know why anyone would keep injecting money into this. It is like the money pit from hell. But somehow, magic Eddie weaves his spell and gets them back. Frito-Lay just came back and stocked some chips and the question is why after getting burned twice you would do that. Must be some kind of tax right off or something. Just let us die already!

I've wondered the same thing recently. Our store is really quite empty, yet sales remain decent despite the obvious lack of inventory.
