Looks like numbers are misleading as majority of jobs will be offshored to Shell "staff" in India. Cheaper labor more resources. Its just business.

Software is a commodity. Just a few years ago I sat in a meeting to discuss Shell getting out of the IT business. Shell has an IT center in India and currently expanding. The Accenture an Wipro folks are slowly being replaced.

Shell is an IT company and doesn’t know it right now. Software is eating the world!

IT in Houston can be outsourced to India, including Product Managers and Delivery Managers. These are jg4 that can easily be replaced with much cheaper labor. Shell is not in the IT business. Outsource it!

the vast majority of workers involved in divestments have the opportunity to take jobs with the buying company so somewhat mis leading to lump them into people being laid off

They are playing with the numbers. While 9,000 positions will be eliminated (or combined with other positions) there will be many thousands more that will lose their jobs via divestments or by being replaced in one of the SBOs. Neither of those are included in the 9,000 number.

Seems low as that number also includes 1500 who took SVS.
