I spent the whole month trying not to worry about layoffs while focusing on projects, and it didn't work. I worried. And then worried some more. There's little we can do but worry when we know it’s coming, but we just don’t know the exact dates, locations, or numbers. I wish ELT would be more forthcoming so many of us can try to be prepared. Good luck to all when the time comes.

Cuts are coming across all areas, no sacred cows. Engineers who are indispensable know who they are, but even they sometimes get let go and are hired back as contractors.
I wasnt a manager, but a hell of a designer/architect/delivery guy. Did almost all the tech presales single-handedly, brought in projects and enhancements for various customers, problem was THEY thought i got paid too much (~$150k), had me train half a dozen freshies - college grads with less than 18 months experience.
This was back in late 2018 and literally 4-5 months later got THE phone call.
I kept my head down, went to a competitor and now we're ripping Teradata tech out of each and every customer who I've worked at before and know the innards of ...
Never underestimate the value of commitment, loyalty and knowledge that employees bring to the company. The world is a very big and accommodating place. And last but not the least - knowledge is power and those who dont value it will find themselves at a loss.
There’s certainly some position adjustments going on.. maybe in preparation for what’s next
No lay-offs confirmed. My team are seeking 10-13 new hires. The headcount is just being shifted around. It's not being reduced.
Fin Op was downsized, jobs sent offshore. Here is my take on what would likely happen in the coming days. Some trimming across the board: Alliance Managers, Engineering, CS, Mid-Level Managers, PS resources focusing on "other" technologies like Cognos, Microstrategy, Datastage Experts etc.People making above $200k who are not managers are not safe, no matter what role. We have an alliance manager for every line item in the interoperability matrix. Go figure, and yesterday I asked one of the them what the current version was, and she said she would have to get back to me on that. PS who are strong Teradata and Cloud are relatively safe. Principals are safe.
Any update on accounting and finance in Atlanta?
it starts at the top. ELT set the tone to operate like a 18 billion dollar company while we generate less than 2 . If this is the approach to solving problems mate, then obviously we will be burning money. The guys with the titles don’t work you see, they only please their masters. Real Work is passed down. First they hire EVP who hire VP and then it trickles downhill from there, Sr. Directors Hire -> directors hire-> slave workers (IC) Who do the real job. What does HR do ? Build their own castle :) rather than doing an analysis that answers the question- why do we operate like $18 Billion company while we make less than 2?
If HR got hit, who would be around to implement the subsequent layoffs? SM?
To the previous poster: Where and which locations the HR got hit? Can you give more details? I am not seeing or hearing anything.
Layoffs started today and HR took a decent hit, at least the bandaide was pulled and we can now start to look for a new employer ...hope to never hear the word Teradata again!
Sorry, but being on a project has no guarantee of safety. We have been through cuts before and good people (not on any kind of administrative action) were let go mid-project. Not only that, but sales and consulting people who hit quota and were CPC or CE bound also got cut. Go figure...
Although I cannot confirm for certain, I strongly believe a large chunk and maybe all of the layoffs will finally be done and over with on 10/05
And there will be entire projects cut.
Hopefully all works out well for you... If you are on a project, then fingers crossed. Worrying times and stressful for many, the not knowing and just waiting is the most painful bit for many. Plus, the fact that on times the decision process seems to totally random and not logical.
if you are working on a project, then you are definitely safe!
