Thread regarding Disney layoffs

WDI

We know it's coming and furloughed folks they know they are on the chopping block. Yet, they are keeping armies of managers and VPs with nobody to manage - just collecting paychecks and doing nothing.

I used to work there.
All of the managers, executives, and misc. “leaders” never contributed a single thing to Imagineering’s workload, product, and, of course, it’s fantastic reputation.
They are all, the most worthless, useless, piles of……………..

It was fun while it lasted....last 10 years was painful. WDI is overhyped.....now is just a regular company doing fun work, it used to be magical....and I am not being angry, just truthful. WDI needs a true visionary like Elon Musk to change the current culture of "safeness and schedule at all costs", also someone to say " we Frk..... up and its not good enough". Never heard this at WDI...we always did a "great job"...... so corporate and annoying, that D'amaro dude is really annoying.
Stars Wars Land was a huge disappointment for me...
Thk you for a wonderful ride.....but in my heart I knew this was coming, dodged a few over the years, guess my reactions are getting slower!
All my buddies at WDI are long gone or dead so.....its time!

It’s funny. Disney is the only company in the world you can go from a 16 year old being a toy solider in the Christmas parade to VP of something. It’s the biggest kiss a– cult like company in the USA. Maybe McDonalds comes close, where you could be a 16 year old flipping burgers to a store owner. But it’s all about who’s a– you kissed. Of course it’s a business based on tourist. No tourist, no need for 10,000 workers a day. Who makes the cuts? Most of the time your manager, they are given direction from above and if you aren’t far enough up their butt, you are expandable. Has nothing to do with skill or work ethic. When lifetime cast members are given the power, they bring along people that like them to help them continue to climb a ladder like no other company in world.

I feel for everyone getting laid off. I'm one of you. I get that this is a forum to let off steam and I'm glad it exists.

That said, how interesting that some seem to feel like the company owes them employment based on loyalty or tenure or WHATEVER. A company owes you 3 things...a safe place to work, a paycheck, and a reason you were let go if you are. But I put in my 9 hours a day for years there!!!! I worked really hard and even had to stay late when needed! They obviously owe me and my family indefinite income. I worked for them and now they won't take care of me! Serious?!

Remember when Borders the bookstore went out of business? Was that Borders' fault? Do you think the employees were saying F Borders!!! No, they were thinking, dang, the world is changing, that really stinks. What about all the other restaurants and companies that are permanently out of business because of COVID or have had to reduce staff? It's how it goes. Less guests = less money = less employees = BUSINESS. I have a family...a big one...all relying on my income/insurance. We will miss going to Disneyland (for free I might add) as part of our regular outings. But I am also not going to pretend that this is a Disney or WDI or Bob Weis slap in my face. I chose to work in an industry that is susceptible to Guest driven revenue. Sorry to everyone affected, I don't mean to sound callous but let's be real.

Alcohol and d–gs are k–lers, guys, at least for me. Fine line between having fun and addiction, be careful and kind to yourself and remember there are tons of online meetings if you need help. Almost 30 days sober and this doesn't make it easy.

Evil Kareem finally got his way. He's probably loving this. He gets to keep his luxury lifestyle at the expense of the people he walked all over at WDI. Can someone explain how someone so abusive and terrible to people could become Chapek's right hand? It's sad.

Really and who and what criteria
were used to determine who was essential.
This is a coup using the covid crisis as a cloak to disguise firing loyal quality people for others gain and sadly their pathetic need for control.

I know people are upset and lashing out as a reaction, but it doesn't make sense for a company to keep managers who aren't doing anything. It is however highly possible and way more likely that you have no idea what other people are actually doing and therefore you are unqualified to talk about it.

Enough with the conspiracies. No one on here is a non-employee getting paid to post comments in support of the company. It seems with 100k+ employees, there might be some who actually understand and support the company's decision. Shocking, I know.

Just FYI, Some people on here are getting paid for every post defending the company. If you’re not an employee you shouldn’t comment.

oh, I am sorry, are coordinators too lowly for you to accept their comments here?

Agree with that. I also know who the person is below who is WDI Coordinator...not a Coordinator, nice try R

Nothing Bob Weis or Josh D'Amaro or anyone at the D could have done to save all of your jobs. Few capital projects means no work for WDI. It s—s, but it's not anyone's fault, and certainly no leader deserves to be body shamed because of it. Some of you people deserve to be jobless.

Yeah Bob! How dare you do exactly what you were hired to do. Run an organization! A business! Dude, can’t believe you let the virus get out of China and affect your WDI employees like this! Oh wait, you had nothing to do with that? When I asked you to meet with me so I could talk to you about my goals and dreams after getting hired, you spent a full hour listening and giving me poignant advice. This s—s big time but keep making those tough calls. You’re not fat, just really big boned buddy.

It’s a business, dude. That’s how businesses work. Especially entertainment based companies that rely on Guests for revenue. Should they get rid of all executives and let the Coordinators run the company? Let’s be real here. I am a WDI employee and have yet to hear but this is to be expected in any business hit hard by something as unexpected and financially crippling as a pandemic. Disney paid insurance for everyone far longer than they needed to and has always treated me with respect. The pay was never great but wasn’t ever promised to be more than it was. I feel your pain and anger, shoot I am in the same boat...still pretty great place to have worked. It’s what we signed up for my friend.

Received some BS email from Bob Weiss trying to soften the blow. You are not good at this Bob. I hope one day you feel the same pain as you caused to all you have laid off.
