Associates were informed today via conference call that auto center will be closing and the liquidation process will take one month.
This auto center is attached to the FLS, not stand alone. FLS is staying open for now but are listed with other stores that are being offered for lease.
On the Sears.com store locator, which may or may not be accurate. I count 60 Auto Centers.
48 of these are attached to full-line Sears stores, and 12 of them are stand-alone (either built that way, or kept open after an attached full-line store closed).

Same thing happened at a store in my area. The auto center portion of the store was shut down sometime before the remainder of the store itself closed.
A friend told me that the Auto Center at the Sunrise Mall Sears in Massapequa, New York closed its auto center and downsized from three floors to two
Jacks, hoists, alignment setups, battery and electrical testers (not sure if Sears does driveability anymore), tire balancers...actually a fair amount of expensive equipment in an auto center, although I have no idea if Sears was using newer stuff or if it's old and decrepit.
Techs own their own hand tools, generally. But yeah, auto centers don't have a lot of inventory per se, since it's mostly automotive/tires.
What is there really to "liquidate" at an auto center? Some tire jacks, and repair tools?
Lp is running the show. Loss prevention k mart has taken over all operations.
