Good luck to all. I left the company back in June! Yes it can be scary, but for most the grass is greener!

I love my job and was rated an average 1.3 for the past 5 years and I was still let go. Go figure.
Please don't let yourself be devastated! If you're at 8 years and any amount of days past, you'll get 9 months of severance plus vacation payout. You'll also be able to apply for unemployment (depending on state). BP is also giving you money to use towards education. It's about $5k if I remember correctly. Take some time off for yourself and family. Use the education cash to your advantage and either get some professional credentials that apply to you or go out and learn something new. Take some computer classes if you lack in that area or some other transferrable skills. Hell, I'm going to use the education money to take pet grooming classes and then will probably open my own mobile per grooming business. It doesn't seem like it but this is a blessing in disguise! People are being placed in c-appy non fulfilling roles and BP will have another round of layoffs with a much c-appier package.
