I took my unemployment during my furlough at Disney. Now I’m “separated” from Disney and my employment has run out. I applied anyway, I’m not sure if extensions are being granted. I’ve grieved and have to move on.

There is a dearth of opportunity in Orlando and Anaheim. The talent will soon jettison to where there is opportunity, or where they have family support to help makes ends meet. Even with a vaccine coming out in the next months, it will take a long time for the hospitality industry to recover.

These news articles about Disney layoffs aren't mentioning that most Cast took their unemployment during furlough last spring/summer and won't have any unemployment left when they are officially laid off in December. Back then, there was the incentive of the CARES Act providing an extra $600 per week, so who wouldn't have started their UE claim during this time? The December layoffs shouldn't have much of an impact on Florida's unemployment stats for claims, and this will hide the fact how devastating these layoffs are for the thousands let go because you won't see the impact in DOE numbers. This happening in the middle of the holiday season will just make it even more difficult to bear.
