I imagine the draconian numbers that we have to hit will be be too much in a lot of functions and those roles will be replaced by contractors. Many of them being the folks they just let go. If you aren't selected, still be the model employee that you are and start politicking to be brought back as a contractor. That's my strategy anyway. Good luck all!

OP: @1ath+17WV7AMc What do you think of this strategy?

The way it works is bp tells the “body shop” to hire former bp employees so they can be contractors for bp. It sounds ridiculous but the benefit to bp is lower headcount while maintaining talent. If they used a random person who doesn’t have experience with bp, they lose a lot of time and money with on boarding and acclimating to bp’s culture.
why bring someone back when you already have a contract with a body shop to provide a steady stream of workers ?
I worked for BP for 28 years when they sent my job to India. I was in IT and management had no use for me so they forces me to retire. I came back as a contractor after 6 months and stayed for another 13 years. The best part of the job was I knew the oil business better than any manager and knew the technical side also. The downside was for 10 of 13 years they wouldn’t give me a rate increase but were very generous at giving me 2 pay cuts. At the
my tenure I was glad to go. The management went from dumb to dumber.
BP cannot bring someone back to do the same job within 6 months, as that would mean that the role was not redundant in the first place. That's not to say that someone cannot be reinstated, but they have to hand back the severance payment.
I think BP could reemploy someone to do a different role altogether within 6 months.
Yes, they can't bring someone back until after six months have elapsed. I guess this could be a way to prevent abuse of the system (where you're let go, you collect your severance, and then immediately come back to work).
That is true and it was also stated in the Q&A sessions for my group =(
Ive heard bp can’t bring a former employee back as a contractor for 6 months after their last day with the company. Is that true?
