Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

It is strange that they only made the 'voluntary layoff' option available to those retirement eligible people

Then I figured out why. It's simple. There is just not many senior technical people left that are retirement eligible. Most of them are managers and executives.

So if leaders don't choose to leave, they cannot be forced to. YES!! We are EXXONMOBIL!

absolutely not true. They can encourage retirement of executives by letting them keep unvested RSU or not. That is why they are leaving now vs losing unvested RSU.

Well said....for the actual high performers that are labeled as such not the fake brown nosing ones that just know how to " play the game "

Much simpler than that: If is was voluntary to everyone, the most employable and highest performers are most likely to take the package. Many other companies have found this....and then struggled as the result.

You can't get into phase 2

Strange, indeed. I am ready to leave. If I could participate in phase 1, my layoff would cost the company 4 months pay. Now if I get in phase 2, my layoff will cost 50 weeks pay.
