Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

VIP exposes “new” rank system.

Anyone notice how they are using a rolling average of the last 3 years of rank as a factor in the lay-off assessment? And yet the new rank process gives you unlimited rank mobility from year to year. Seems to be a tacit acknowledgement of the fact that the “revamped” rank system was just an HR publicity stunt.

Yep, I think we can all see the "new" ranking system for what it is. Many were pleased when they announced they are getting rid of the seriatum. We had no idea they were planning this. Not many FLS and SLS I know try to pretend otherwise, but, they still need to fill out the paperwork because thems the rules now.

@1bfc+17UtJfD5 ... Yes age will get you laid off. Be a good company-woman and try not to be old.

Why are taking so much stress of being in EM...smart people love to solve challenging problems, here in EM people are becoming kiss assers to their bosses to stay in EM.
Get out and get out now :)
Other companies will love to have you and want to solve real problems.

"complex calculation based on age, s-x, ethnicity, moveability, and performance" - at least two of those, s-x and ethnicity, sound like pure discrimination.

Ranking is only 30% so you are focused on the wrong thing. The 70% which is not transparent - skills and “fit” is what you should be worried about.

So is being older an asset or a deficit in the formula?

This assessment is based on a complex calculation based on age, s-x, ethnicity, moveability, and performance. Any of yall that think performance is going to be the driving factor is just a troll.

First, in mid-2020 they cut current NSIs through PIPs.

Next, they will reach back 2 years, and dig up those "underperformers" as well. So only the "best" will be kept!!!

Performance assessment is based on one year only.... if you are making decisions on who stays or leaves you would want them to consider more than just the last year!! It is about getting a more rounded assessment to make a life changing decision.

The Company will do what it wants to make the target cut numbers. The changes to the ranking system were unfair to those who were ranked high the prior period and then dropped to NSI so as to justify the involuntary termination. In terms of the Company's standard of conduct we all read and sign this time of the year, it doesn't seem to apply when it suits the company's position to eliminate loyal good performing employees.

I agree with @op. They don’t trust their own rank system to make personnel decisions. I had 2 coworkers get pipped that ranked outstanding the year before but because they were moved to a new organization they dropped straight to the bottom. A rolling average would have been nice back then. 0/10 do not recommend Exxon

That is not a ranking system, it is a layoff system.
