Someone on one of these threads well noticed that poor strategy like blaming others is more pronounced than ever in this company. It’s not that it wasn’t present before, people have done it before to protect themselves, but now that passive-aggressiveness which creates even more tension is almost unbearable. How do you deal with coworker(s) who delight in blaming others?

The ranking system, economic downturn and layoffs are clear drivers of stress. But it's always been extremely competitive and stressful at EM, even in good times.
What's new is the prevailing attitude of the EM workforce. No empathy, no respect, no appreciation, no patience, no listening, no cooperation or group spirit, no dedication, only the need for immediate and continuous gratification and getting mine mine mine. No one else matters but ME.
I think it reflects the values and upbringing of a large portion of this new generation of workers, and it is poisoning our entire country, not just EM or the O&G industry. They are largely spoiled, privileged, entitled, insufferable, and ungrateful sycophants that will do anything to enrich themselves, especially delighting in the suffering of any that disagree with them.
I long for the old days when the EM culture was dominated simply by arrogance. What I see today is infinitely worse. And it will destroy everything in its path.
What you are seeing is an the inevitable outcome of a ranking system which pits employees against each other and rewards behaviors such as information hoarding, sabotage of others, taking credit for other people's work, etc.
I think it's the sheer number of posts here that drive the toxic environment. 1900 people isnt that many in the grand scheme of things.
I've visited quite a few other Layoff boards - O&G (like Chevron) and others with continual postings (like Wells Fargo / Allstate / Cisco).
ExxonMobil is by far the most sniping, bitter and abusive Layoff board.
Against management (understandable) but also amongst and against each other.
Suspicion: Rosneft getting their foot in the door.
It's hunger games baby. Survival in a Machiavellian doctrine.
It is the toxic environment that has been created. “New ranking” obviously made it much worse. Everyone is competing to hold on to a job. There are people that would sell their own mother to keep their paycheck. It is sad but true.
