Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

The VIP faq was updated. 60 days of work required to qualify for severance

So a new section of the faq is clear you will work/ be on payroll for a period of at least 60 days after notification of being layed off.

If you don’t complete the 60 days or are terminated for cause no severance for you! And there is paperwork that needs to be returned within 45 days. And vacation will be approved at supervisors discretion

Could it get any worse. First wait 45 days until we may be notified and then hey continue to work for 60 days or else!

If moral wasn’t already at an all time low. If I go I’m getting in writing a clear set of deliverables from my supervisor this way there will be no shenanigans.

Yes the faq are pretty clear that If you finished your pip, you are eligible for involuntary.

Can someone clear up some confusion I have. If someone passed PIP, are they still eligible for involuntary? Or, does it not apply this round for people who passed PIP? Was a bit confusing based on the FAQ they posted.

Hopefully a new employer can hold tight until 60 days period is over but I can totally see people forced into an absolute sh– choice, especially those with larger $$$ of severance eligibility.

So what happens if the employees just don't do much work and spend their time looking for a job in those 60 days? Can they fire you with cause if they think you're not working enough? They've not fired anyone with cause for not working enough before, outside of their raking cycle, but can they get out of paying severance that way? what happens if an employee reports a bad boss to HR? They can't fire you twice, can they?

If this is true, then this is pure evil. I know that this is a business decision and dollars are dollars, but come on, nickel and diming people.

If after notification you have to turn in computer say 1-2 weeks after notification you will still be on payroll until February and will still get severance. It does seem like it’s up to current manager and you as to how long you work after notification. Unless management just has a set date for when involuntary folks have to turn in computers.

I was the op for the post linked above.....and most people said "no way", "you would be walked out that day but get the two months+severance".......

I didnt want to be right.....but I was right because this company is totally f—ed in the head.

Hang in there folks!

Fire people and then force them to continue to work and transition for 2 months to receive severance?

It’s bizarre how depraved and heartless the Company has become. They could care less about your need to find a new job to keeping putting food on the table for your family.

Also, what a humiliation for those employees during those 60 days. I’m sure supervisors and managers will treat them with empathy and and dignity during that period...Not!! Most will be treated like garbage and made to grovel in order to receive the severance.

This must have been another cruel, half-baked idea from useless HR.

Aren’t you proud of ExxonMobil? Winning!!!

If you think about it, perhaps the change protects the company from prosecution against the WARN Act. In the end, if people resign ahead of the 60 days or are fired "for cause", the company reduces their out of pocket expenses. Nothing surprises me anymore with this company... good luck to all.

Yup. Cost saving measures. Lol.

How sick is it that you have to be actively looking for job after being notified of layoff in December but don't get the "bonus" of being forced out if your successful. Company does not care about the employees, never have, nor will they ever. They will soon find their employees are just not going to put as much into the company.

@zkl+17Uc2uUM, EM probably thinks if you're starting a new job in January, you don't need their severance pay.

Supervisor told our group that they don’t expect us to work 60 day after notification. It doesn’t appear to be clear for VPs and up what they expect. Supervisor thought it would be more like 1-2 weeks from notification but you will still be on payroll til February.

That sounds a lot like a PIP with the added option of severance and the luxury of finding any reason to fire you.

So if I am notified of being laid of and I quickly find a job where I am asked to start, say, in January, I have to either decline job offer, or to give up severance?
That would be ridiculous.

Are there even going to be any parties? How about pot luck under the cube.

@zde+17Uc2uUM

I’d agree but would rather be paid for my vacation. I’m taking the max in carryover just because of this. I may even ask my supervisor to carry over more than 10 days.

They are also saying they can restrict your vacation time after being notified. Might want to consider taking vacation now or locking in and documenting plans with your supervisor for anything after November. If I wasn’t over Exxon before, I am now. Exxon can gtfo. Bye Felicia!

The funny thing is, you know for sure some genius on the 6th floor actually did JLA’s on this and determined that the risk to the company was justified.

Oh really, so those who were spared will be pressing their former colleagues for handover. They will be having depressing meetings for another 60 days. And if those fired are too upset or too busy looking for jobs, they should report to the supervisor so that measly severance package could be taken away? What heartless cold blooded back stabbing a-holes would do that? — obviously the big shots deciding on the policy

Brilliant strategy. Keep people on board that will add no value After being told they aren’t valued (woah imagine that!) and will only make the “keepers” more depressed as they watch the horrible treatment by management towards the firees. I think I just caught several bad cases of flu, had to catch up on 3 weeks of webcat, computer accessories stopped working, Kids spilled juice on the laptop, and all in the same 2 month span! What are the odds. MEGA!
