Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Classic gems from M.e

“As a CMO, you cannot have fear, you have to be fearless. You can’t blink otherwise the team senses that, other functions will sense that, and you’re dead in the water,” the recently appointed chief marketing officer tells CMO. “You have to have conviction you’re going to do this. I’ve done this a couple of time before, and without arrogance or conceitedness, I believe this is achievable.”

“It wasn’t necessarily popular but it was a necessity. We also just brought more roles back from our headquarters in Ohio to San Diego. That’s about building critical mass so we can work shoulder to shoulder,” he says. “Now we have clear focus, KPIs and action plans, then you’ll see who can deliver and who can’t.”

“Less experienced people are bubbling to the top when they’re empowered, enabled and able to get away from fear. They now know they can do things without risk of punitive backfiring.”

Where has fearlessness gotten Teradata during ME's tenure: falling revenue and massive layoffs. Maybe were he fearful, he woud be motivated to take positive action.

Maybe M.E. can help the other ELT members by developing All-Hands videos they can each use to show us all the impactful things they have done since the last All-Hands meeting. We were all so impressed with his video about his Marketing department. Here is a new idea M.E., don't invest any time or money in things you use to try and convince us, we already know you are useless. Please invest only in things that convince our clients Teradata is useful.

Marketing is no help? They are actually damaging TD’s reputation. They should fire all marketing management and start over. Sure couldn’t do any worse.

Marketing is harming the positioning because it is kowtowing to the market hype and creating expectations which cannot be fulfilled, instead of sticking to our true value at the risk of promising less but more deliverable. Why "only sell what's on the truck" but market the whole lot?

Pompous windbag. Ask anyone in sales how much (or little) Marketing helps raise awareness, communicate effectively, build confidence, or assist with the sale. I'm not in Sales but I have heard them complain that Marketing is no help!

Classic Me Vaporware talk. He was responsible for ARR growth KPI, which was actually negative. He didn't have a plan, and no one from the regions even cared about, All blustery talk and no results.
