Thread regarding TechnipFMC plc layoffs

This is both sad and ridiculous

I know the company is careful to lay off just enough younger people as well to protect itself from age discrimination claims, but that doesn't change the fact that what is being done is age discrimination. People who have been here the longest and who have earned their pay raises through hard work and going the extra mile are now gone because they make too much. They have been punished for their experience and contributions to the company. How is that okay???

Yep...I was the first one let go in my group. I was also the oldest by 15 years. I had only been with the company for 8 years, and my salary was average for my job. It was in the same range as the rest of my team. So that 'older workers make more money' line is bs. They are clearly practicing ageism. But the problem is, they make you sign the paper that says you won't sue them before you can get your severance so there isn't s**t you can do about it.

HR Happiness Manager, it’s a freaking lovely loophole companies have created to avoid age discrimination. Don’t pretend it’s not.

Yes we all know that you can't lay someone off because of their age. Why that would be illegal ! So ya'll have to fabricate another reason.

It sounds like you had a good long run with TFMC. I’d count yourself as fortunate.

FMC Tech used to care about their employees not Technip!

Remember all that work you did to try to "optimize" how we do things, literally put all your knowledge down on paper to teach other TFMC employees how to do their jobs, and to get the project starts off to an 80% jump from the get go???? That was all to replace you high earners with low paid desk monkeys. TFMC now doesn't have to invest in training all thanks to your efforts. Absorb this! Let it sink into your reality as deeply as it can. You got played.

First reply was accurate. This is all about money. Nobody cares about your color , gender, religion or anything else. The big boys are s—ing it dry. And nothing that matters to you means d— .

There is often a correlation between higher pay and age, so the fact that highly paid employees are treated adversely does not itself prove age discrimination. Employers can make business decisions based on other factors - like terminating employees because of seniority or high pay - even though this may affect more people who are older, if there is no intentional age discrimination. But the employer cannot have a hidden agenda and lay off people with more experience or higher salary just for the purpose of laying off older workers.

Whoever said wipe your eyes will experience the discrimination of employees 50 and over soon enough. Your lesson will be learned then.
