Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

No Sarcasm please

Question.
I think my number is coming up for next layoffs. For anyone recently laid off- Were there any signs or symptoms that your lay-off was on the works? Is there anything that you wished you would have said or when lay-off notice was being given to you? Is there any room for negotiation of time or severance?
Thank you for insights or advice.

Normally its after you cross the line, i.e. disagree with unfair performance review or write the truth in a brown nose questionnaire or TellDell. Nothing is fair, nothing is anonymous. They only want brainless sheep, soulless sleezeballs and subdued slaves.

The signs for me were my one-on-one meetings with me manager changing, which was unusual. Also, I was not being allowed to work on the next portion of work that was planned for me. That mixed with the news around the world that Dell announced layoffs, it was becoming more clear to me what was happening. Like others that posted here, I was a high performing team member with RSUs given for very recent achievements and a recommendation for a promotion from my manager and skip level. I do not know why I was chosen, but it is what it is. As far as what I should have done, I wish I took the warning signs seriously and began looking for new employment ASAP since the process can be long, especially in the state of the economy now. There was no room for negotiation on any part of the termination. I was informed 2 days before the layoff and that was it. Instead of a one on one there was the additional HR representative there who read from a long script saying basically ' You're being laid off'. I suggest very strongly to get your resume together and start looking. If you are in fear of losing your job there is no reason to stay and deal with the additional stress. I was sticking around because with COVID, I thought this company is making lots of money, and having great earnings regardless of the economy and thought I was safer at Dell than most places. I was wrong and suffered. They are cutting people and blaming the virus even though they are reporting earnings above what they projected. They are simply looking to reface the business with some new efforts and getting rid of people not contributing to the 'New Dell' and masking it behind COVID is an easy scape goat. BTW,I lost all my stocks, paid time off, sick days, ect.

Come ON! Dell doesn't fire people.

Even you you are being harassed by a coworker with proof and report to HR. Nothing really happens.

This is what happens the harasser will get talked to by a manager on the issue . Work life will go on for or 3-4 months than Dell HR swoops in out the blue and pulls a reduction in force and the harasser walks away with the severance package.

I grew my business 25% HOH, and I had skills that other team members didn't possess. I was let go. You can be successful however if your face doesn't fit, your out.

Hand on heart is your role achieving growth and outcome for the org. If not, can your skills be used in another. If you dont want a WFR, retrain and offer to add value elsewhere in the org. Right now they are looking for ideas. If you are at home waiting then the time will run out.

People arent just being WFR'd

Use PBA or vacation immediately. They won't pay it out unless you're in MA or 1-2 other states (not TX or TN).

Whole team received new 1on1 invites even though we had recurring ones setup. I was never on a PIP and got blindsided by an HR guy during the scheduled "11on1" during the last round. Ensure your orders invoice and take time off immediately if you think you're out. At this point, stellar performance, seniority, and who you know means nothing. Its just about the bottom line. Look for new jobs now....

Also, look at the massive amount of stock trading going on...

My manager told the team lead and another guy he helped get over here to the United States on a work visa back in January of 2020. It was all very shady and from what I understand from some former colleagues, there were a lot of laughs about everyone on the team watching netflix and chill during working hours since everyone is wfh now. So many people are milking the hell out of that place. I think the US government and US military should stop buying products and services from Dell since they took advantage of COVID and fired a bunch of US workers only to turn around and exploit cheap labor.

If you're manager doesn't have your back and you're getting a weird vibe, get ready to start searching..

If you get an invite for a 1:1 short notice, then you'll know for sure..

As yourself - How did your performance review go back in Feb 2020 ? If there were even a little of concerns raised by manager then you are at risk.

  • How much of work do you have in hand? Make sure it is alteast 150%.
  • Make sure your boss is very happy of you.
  • Did you ever ask for a salary raise ? (I hope not)

Dell is doing heavy penny pinching and shifting a lot of jobs to india.

Read between the lines. Your manager will always be positive but will also be short answered, not completely truth telling and very generic in your 1 on 1's.

No negotiation on severance take it or don't.

If you feel you're being let go due to age discrimination or Dell bullying don't accept the package and find a lawyer just make sure you have proof

If you are being let go on a zoom session make sure to record on your end. Its funny when your no longer an employee how information gets lost in translation.
