Thread regarding Sears layoffs

List of 61 remaining Sears stores (from Sherry on Facebook)

Sherry keeps the most up-to-date list of still-open Sears stores that I know of. It says 61 stores are still open and not (yet) confirmed as closing:

What other stores are open and non-liquidating, besides the ones listed here?

The count is now 60, because the closing of Manchester CT was announced after this list was made.

The eight small format stores on this list are corporate-owned and are listed on the Sears.com store locator as "Sears Store"s. When Sears posted lists of reopening stores this summer, they included these stores.

Hometown stores are a separate category and are largely franchises. They are much harder to keep track of. Someone should, but not me.

I'm quite happy for Sherry to continue maintaining the list that I started. She is doing a fine job over at the Facebook "Retail of Today and Yesterday" group.

Ron has most certainly been given credit as the initiator as well as a major contributor to this list. He has been instrumental in working with me and had provided this information to you in this post. I’m extremely grateful for all he does.

I realize they are big states, but FL/CA have way too many stores. No reason for more than 3 or 4 per state. Also they need to bounce Hawaii. Why shop goods to a far off island? Concentrate on the best 20-25 stores on the mainland and shut the periphery stuff down. Or better yet just concentrate on hometowns. They are franchised (like most fast food restaurants) but still sell the same products with a smaller footprint. Much less overhead than full lines.

This person just blatantly lifted Ron/Jack's lists (to the inch, including the statistics section), without even offering a modicum of recognition, as to where they got it from. That takes some audacity. That Said, this list is accurate, but not sure why they included the small format stores. If they're not including Hometowns, then why include any small formats?

Does anyone have any idea how many are left in corporate in Hoffman Estates?

I'd love to see someone research and report the status of the Sears Hometown chain, but that won't be me and I doubt it will be Sherry either. These small stores are much harder to document because their closings don't result in jobs.sears.com postings, WARN notices, or any significant local media coverage.

Typo, my fault: "Alea", Hawaii should actually be Aiea. I've told Sherry.

Additionally, we acknowledge the absence of the 300 (+or-) Hometown stores excluded from this listing. Ideally, I’d like to attempt to research and include them at some point.
