Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Has anybody gotten severance this year?

Of all the stores closed, of all the employees laid off this year, has anybody gotten any kind of a severance package? Or is that a forgone thing by and nobody is even expecting to receive it?

Because if there was severance, I can understand people still working at remaining stores. But if there wasn't, what is everybody waiting for?

My co-workers and I got a severance but they screwed us on the way out the door by changing the severance policy in September. The new policy is that whatever your number of severance weeks are they stretch out the payments over twice as many weeks. So for us who got 8 weeks severance they are paying it out over the course of 16 weeks. What that means is we are getting half the amount of pay as we usually earned every week. And since it's paid through a regular paycheck every two weeks instead of a lump sum we can't qualify for unemployment for the whole 16 weeks even though we are really only getting 8 weeks of pay. My severance pay is less than unemployment. We all knew this day was coming but were expecting that when we closed we could count on our weekly severance at our regular pay amount or unemployment. What a way to thank the people who hung in there with them until the end especially during a pandemic.

When my store closed I just got one month of severance (was a full timer). After that it was UE. I gota say the only thing I loved most when my store closed was UE it was lovely to get paid and do nothing for the next 6 months.

Our store’s full timers got 8 weeks severance based on 35 hours when we closed I April. I think people over 20 years got 20 weeks. Missed that by 1 month.

Similarly, when Toys R Us went bankrupt the company initially offered severance and later reneged. After they executives walked away with millions of dollars, there was a class action lawsuit and finally a settlement much later.
