American majors also lay-off American workers at a higher rate than their global counterparts. It has to do with the laws for layoffs and severances, it’s cheaper and easier to lay an American off than a European. “Right to work”. This is what a large swath of Americans have voted for themselves since a Reagan. Let’s enjoy all this freedom.

Agree that the 9.000 does not include divestments such as Convent. And does not include jobs that will move to the SBO.

When you combine those two aspects, suddenly that 9,000 figure ends up being closer to 20,000.

I don't think the 9000 includes Convent because the communication has been that the 9000 DO NOT include divestments or movement of jobs to SBOs. So Bukom seems to be part of the 9000 as it is neither, in fact the site is being geared towards fitting Shell's future strategy, which is what Reshape is all about.

I agree... SBOs are the future and they will result in many more job losses in the West.

Would the 9000 account for the refineries that are being shut down? ie. Convent ~ 800, Bukom ~ 500 etc.
Also, would the 9000 account for the TAO/SBO offshoring effort that transfers a position from a high pay location to a low cost location? I am suprised by the lack of discussion on the topic of offshoring as this may have the biggest impact on jobs located in Europe, Australia, USA and Canada. I wonder how those governments enjoy watching their income tax move to India. I envision a day where facilities located in high wage countries will be replaced either through digitalization or offshore labour, they will have very little employment benefit for the host country. If all companies do this, high wage countries will find themselves with high unemployment and only low wage jobs.

WE all know Shell likes to layoff American. Shell has laid off more American than all the other oil majors combined in the last 5 years.

Support the American Oil companies...maybe they can lay-off the European Hopefully this saving will allow BVB to buy more hair grease and move to a new younger wife. He is about due for both right?

Initial reports said world wide; it's not USA or the rest of the world, it's everyone.
