Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Strategy to divest from fossils or just greed?

When it was officially announced that with the closure of the Convent refinery, 700 of us would be fired (as well as many other contractors) by the beginning of next year, the dividend increase, which is also announced last week, worsened my pain.
What a callousness! I don’t believe it’s just a strategic reorientation. Their GREED is endless.
I hope we all manage to find a new job quickly.

You can blame those greedy shareholders for demanding a return on their investments. If they would just stop demanding we could keep people employed and costs high.

Shell will focus on 6 sites world wide. If you are not one of the 6 sites i am assuming it will be sold or shut down. Bottom line is there are no Refinery owners that can operate at a loss forever.

Come on, Shell is still very actively trying to get into new oil and gas exploration opportunities. We speak to the public about our greenness, but it’s just a facade. It helps our public image but we don’t really believe that.

I hope you're as cheerful when your job gets eliminated during reshape. Besides, it's what's best for the company right?

I've yet to figure out if this sycophantic behavior truly gets you ahead in Shell, or if all of my coworkers are just that stupid. I'm leaning towards the latter.

Considering the rumor on the street is that Geismar and Norco will be offering voluntary packages to salary all the way down to hourly employees to make room for you, this is a bs statement. Convent has been bleeding out cash at an astounding rate, so it makes sense to close the doors on that site.
