Husky has always been pretty secretive about any internal news. And the direction to the leaders starting 2 months ago to not communicate any COVID concerns further, only close contacts are informed and the cleaning of the desks is done. They want to keep us at the office at any cost.

Can anyone confirm what was said re: Procurement and COVID results? I've asked some of the people on our team who work with Procurement to check. They did and nothing came back. I have a hard time believing that Husky would keep this news away from the rest of the office, but anything is possible these days. Despite the rising numbers and increasingly lax behavior at the office, COVID isn't even mentioned by the company anymore. A few months back it was all COVID, all safety, all the time...now crickets.

Are you 100% sure that 20th floor is affected? There have been 21 Husky employees that have tested positive for covid Canada-wide since the beginning of the year. Not sure how many are in Calgary. Funny, yesterdays HuskyNet story “COVID-19 Update: Husky by the numbers” said “ZERO Husky Workplace cases”. Now I see that stat has been deleted and removed entirely today. They were patting themselves on the back saying they had no cases at our workplaces / sites, now we see that is a buncha BS. And yet, WFH is not an option. This, on top of the risk of losing our jobs and everything we’ve worked for. Come back to the office they said… everything will be fine they said….

Few less today with the positive covid results in procurement.
If in doubt check out the floors in procurement today.

I would think that they restored the employee salaries to avoid potential lawsuits. Employees could argue they should be let go at their old salary and not the reduced one they were on for the short time. Especially relevant if you are a VP and the percentage cut was big enough to make a difference to your package.

For Finance, the year end work needs to be done first, so we have jobs until mid February I’m sure.

Odd thing. Cenovus just restored contractor rates and employee salary cuts this past week.

The merger takes place few months. It's not going to be finilized that quick. March 2021 is the earliest for some decisions to be made. Contractors may go earlier.

Not sure about husky but cenovus has already let go of 300-400 contractors since April. Does anyone know if contractors were being let go prior to announcement of merger?

If your down town and nervous, consider that you have 4 pay checks now until 2021. Maybe another one after if the layofffs are announced in late January like people are predicting. If you have benefits, use them now. Go to the bank and see if you can reduce your payments. Get ready. And be kind to everyone at work because everyone is feeling sad. You never know if you’re safe, on the bubble or out. If you act like a jerk right now, you’ll be out

Well if it’s any consolation he management is going to get hammered hard as they are all duplicates. You don’t need to VPs of HR or the numerous managers etc and same with every other group. All the mgmt are doubled up so a lot of cuts will come from there. That and any contractor is screwed. That and there will be cuts at cenovus as well, they were told the same thing as well in their townhalls. But don’t worry at all, you will be treated with fairness and respect. You might be homeless after this but at least they respected you.

Does the 2100 include students employees? They won’t be counted as layoffs.

Here at Cenovus we also expect layoffs, likely 1000 people

Majority layoff in Calgary head office, does that mean 1 in 2 will let go...

2135 to be exact. And Yes - that includes contractors. But no way of knowing how may contractors that makes up. I believe last Oct 2019, our round of layoffs were in the 450 mark. Agreed that the media always reports worst case scenario. Either way you cut it, not a good feeling, as Pissbody floats away on his golden parachute and ruins many lives.

Yes, the number includes contractors. Worth pointing out the target range is actually 1700-2100 employees. Media always reports the worst case scenario.

Sounds more like everyone from husky can be laid off fitting perfectly into the cenovus takeover plan... maybe they'll keep some svp's

Yes. Around 2100. I have access to Spotfire and can see the count. So if the numbers add up, you have a 50/50 chance.
