The current situation got me wondering: do you prefer knowing weeks in advance that layoffs are coming and knowing pretty much all the details but whose names are on the list or do you prefer to not know about layoffs until the day of? The first option gives people time to prepare, but to me it's not worth the extra stress and worry. Just sitting here and waiting...not for me.

I've been through both methods:
Method 1 - operator A a big multinational co.... told employees months in advance.....
Method 2 - current operator B literally just emailed from ceo the morning OF.. with no warning...... said stay by your phone today....... by 2PM follow-up email said back to work layoffs are done 'for now'....

Well they did with the Pip'd people (if you actually went with the Pip) so it would not be anything shocking.
Do you work as if you know you are getting laid off - bare minimum. Network like crazy.
If you do keep your job - good! If not, you are mentally prepared to apply for other jobs.
Are they going to want you there for weeks knowing you are going to be laid off? From my experience EM never tells you anything till the last moment
You either get blindsided when the list comes out or you get blindsided the day of. Personal preference, I'm sure. Many people probably prefer knowing ahead of time. I'm constantly looking for other jobs so I'm good with a slap in the face the day of. I also actively engage in mediocrity so I sort of expect it every single day.
This is a great post where people can share their perspective without being labeled inconsiderate by others who disagree and have another prospective. Thanks op! I would prefer to be given a very short heads up (like last week DW forum where the general idea is announced) and then they drop the hammer with the severance. Kinda of a balance of the two. Getting fired without notice would be not preferable (Like wow that’s incredible stress right there) but waiting weeks upon weeks upon weeks would be just about as bad for mental health (better on finances of course but very taxing on my well being for sure).
