Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

What is Privilege?

Privilege at Teradata is:

  1. Being an overpaid ELT member that gets to fire others for your mistakes.
  2. Getting the job of a laid off American Teradata employee simply because you live in a lower cost country.
  3. Surviving the great layoff of 2020 and all that came before so you can face it again next year.
  4. Sending tone-deaf company wide emails about privilege the day after a mass layoff without having to worry about anyone complaining because they are too scared for their jobs.

"US jobs need to stay in US. An organization sells a product in US in exchange for US dollar not Indian Ruppee. India has not invented anything of its own, it is just piggybacking on US technology and US jobs. Any tech product or piece of software application is US invention. Organizations are greedy and want to maximize their profit and so move jobs to India. Teradata is doing exactly the same."

For a second forget about TD. Yeah I agree so much of invention/innovators happened to be in the US. But I am pretty sure you or whoever that are crying like babies in this forum are not one of them, otherwise you wouldn't be lingering here. You are just comforting yourself by typecasting and being racist and can't digest the fact that the mediocre work you are doing here, by here I mean in the US not TD, can be done by an equally talented individual in some other country with 1/3 of the salary you are getting. Coming to the greed part, you would also do the same thing if you are running a business. Greed is integral part of humans.

Sorry, if i offended anyone in these difficult times. It's not fair to demean someone who you don't know just because you are facing tough times. Just accept the present and focus on future.

I got that weird "What is privilege" email by KCC on Tuesday, the day all of my friends were being laid off. Talking about bad timing!

"You got what you deserved. If you still think you were better in the company which kicked you out, then now is the time to wake up."

Are you F-in kidding. You have no clue about what is behind the layoffs. It is not about kicking out the bottom 10 % of performers. It is about kicking out those with the higher salaries, irrespective of job performance, to compensate for incompetent management decisions that have resulted in lackluster revenue growth.

India is only doing what is asked of them, they are good people with families just like us in the US or UK!

Why are the laid off people not busy looking for a better opportunity which the God is going to bestow on them soon? Rather than wasting time complaining about the past and complaining about who deserves what. You got what you deserved. If you still think you were better in the company which kicked you out, then now is the time to wake up.

Even after a decade of experience and hard work we get 20k - 35k USD a year in India. Hence jobs are moving to India similar to why most of the electronics products are manufactured in China. Despite China being anti democratic, stealing US tech, great threat to US economy and security you couldn't replace chinese products then how can you stop jobs going to India which is a democratic, open society and a close US ally?

I have personally enjoyed the Diversity Dialogue series. That being said, I think the timing was poor and it came across as tone deaf.

Judging by the number of views for the topics in this forum, I'd rather say the true diversity dialogues happen here, with proper honesty, openness and no holds barred.
Somebody please tell KCC to post the link on Yammer :-)

KCC obviously. And I would add - on a salary midway between 6 and 7 figures, presumably.
