Thread regarding Husky Energy Inc. layoffs

Layoffs will be bad

And most of them will be from Husky. Just do some reading on other similar acquisitions in our field and pay attention to numbers of laid off employee from the buyer and from the company being acquired. Cenovus will not be spared, but we will take the brunt of this.

Husky Energy Inc. reported a nearly $7.1-billion loss in its latest quarter, when do they start cutting people loose

None could track what is published here. And tons of people could say exactly the same thing, including the same years of service etc. Stop this pointless debate and focus on the real discussions.

And we know who you are too... hello

It can be tracked through the context of what you say you've worked on, posting how many years you've worked here, and who you reference, etc. Some people have definitely posted enough information for me to know who they are.

I'd really like to know how any comments could be tracked. I mean nothing is truly anonymous anymore, but there would be a lot of time wasted just to find out who posted what.

Hey... at CVE all you need to be is a driller to move up to the top, no education necessary. They will even send you around the world to get you executive MBA, but don't worry, you can get one of your minions to do all the work for you.

How can comments be "easily" linked back to them? These are anonymous posts.
I don't care if they trace my comments back to me, even though Husky has been very good to me for a long time, they make bone headed decisions that have brought us to the end of Husky. The managers at Husky all need sacking. Hopefully CVE doesn't keep any of these knuckle dragging empire building fools. None of them have proper training they just moved up overtime, but there skills didn't change to match the job.

Husky has always been about empires.

People should think about their comments being easily linked back to them.

Sounds like Husky culture (at the top anyhow) is very much like Cenovus, with respect to Ariba and some third party mgmt firm brought in to implement it... all with a smattering of nepotism. Yup, sounds like a perfect match up. Don't count on too many VPs getting the axe, Cenovus loves VP's. VPs need VPs reporting to them so they feel more powerful, and can then move up the ladder to Sr.VP. It's all about empire building and not much has changed at Cenovus (Encana) in the last 15 years.

I was part of testing, I failed every action that didn't work then was told I had to pass them by a certain date no matter what. When I wouldn't pass the faulty program I was removed from testing...

CVE here... what is Ariba?

Can confirm was part of the ariba development, rollout and training.... stopped from being able to make it work by Accenture's inability and mgmt turning a blind eye. By training time we were all just checking boxes knowing it wasn't going to work well at all.

Still wondering how Procurement gets away with things like Ariba. Hope that changes in the new co. Big department...

The best was standing in a town hall in front of 100’s claiming it would work.
Two years later still issues.

Yet nobody, from a VP or director level took accountability for this seamless project (lols)

I think everyone involved in the training also jumped as soon as they could too.

Great role out, well done to all those involved.

Oh the ariba roll out was hilarious... husky appointed a project manager to deal with the accenture team... that was headed by his wife.... then mgmt wondered why it didn't work properly

Don't worry my Husky friends, I got packaged after 15yrs with Husky last October. best thing to ever happen. Husky has an amazing severance package! Found a better job and hoping I can get a sweat package here one day. There is lots of work out there just not in Calgary. Good luck to you all.

Sad thing is management knew a long time ago.

Directors moving over to marketing in the Summer to lead a ‘5 year plan’ when they’ve been off work for a long time was simply a move to protect the individual. Good Ariba role out by the way.

You’ve managers on extended mat leave (recent)
Managers in their early 50s retiring and then popping up A job 2 days later.

And they knew back in May why contractors had their hours cut by 1/3 or contractors contracts not being renewed.

Senior Management knee something was happening months ago.

It is what it is, but some of the VPs are looking after the r their own and protecting them from the inevitable.

Don’t despair my Husky friends. When CVE bought the COP assets, they proudly proclaimed they absorbed every single employee from those assets. About a year later, a whole lot of CVE worker bees got let go in a ‘workforce optimization’.

Cenovus will be taking a portfolio approach to funding projects meaning if you had budget for Tucker/Sunrise it’ll go to higher return opportunities at FCCL.

CVE will be spending a very low level of capital going forward in conventional/deep basin so it’s likely to take a bigger share of the hit.

Unfortunately I think you are correct. Merger my a$$. We are merging into them. Whatever they want to take on. If you in Calgary start looking for a job now.
