Eddie isn’t legally bound to keep any of these stores afloat. Once he made the purchase from the bankruptcy court, the stores and assets he purchased were legally his free and clear to do with as he pleases.

This could drag on a while because they’re getting merchandise that was destined for other retailers that closed due to Covid. I’m sure these companies are eager to find someone to take it and Eddie has a handful of stores to fill and since he’s got no shareholders to answer to what does he care, probably paying cash and getting stuff cheap. There probably is a legal standpoint to keeping the company open 2 years after the acquisition of hometown regardless of how small.

90 days to close a store? Our kmart could close in 3 weeks with as little merchandise as we have. No Halloween or Xmas. Just a c-ap ton of clothing.

How were sales and foot traffic in the stores this weekend? Any hope of having some sort of sizeable holiday selling period?

Tax purposes is the key for future closures. Remember, he bought the company with a credit sale, not cash.

Bummer. Troy was one of the few DieHard auto centers they were going to roll out nationally, before the brand was sold off. Minor clarification - some of these auto centers have had their associated full-time store already closed (as in the case of Troy) or never had a full line store at all (e.g. Hoffman)

Sadly, it looks like nothing is coming. I have searched the internet since July, and have found zero evidence of any additional closures. Which leads me to begrudgingly and disappointingly admit that we might not get any more closures in 2020. Bummer, because I wanted every last one of them gone with zero exceptions. Granted, I will eventually get my wish, but I guess I have to wait until 2021. For some odd reason, he is sticking tightly to the last 60 (or so), odd Sears, and 30 + (or however many) Kmarts. Why he doesn't close them is beyond me.

I feel like the "are we there yet?" kid, in the back of the car who finally got tired of asking dad if we're "there yet", and have just resigned myself to the fact that we are not there yet, and just might not be for a while. Bummer. Hope Santa brings me a nice gift for Christmas, which will be every single last remaining vestige of Sears and Kmart permanently closing in early 2021. I can only PRAY AND HOPE. Please?

Well, we just received our holiday hours...open Thanksgiving 9-7, then the store hours will be 9-11 starting 11/15 and then 9-12, as we get closer to Christmas ..we are in New York and we are getting mdse. mostly Apparel, HBA and Pantry...some Toys and organization in Housewares, tons of hangers. So it looks like they are still making a go of it...for how long, who knows at this point.

Loss prevention is just hiding in their offices watching Netflix, scrolling through Facebook and trolling Sears layoff. Waiting it out like the rest of us.

The one concrete thing I've seen people post about, both here and various places on Facebook, is the closing of many Sears Auto Centers. It would be nice to see a list.
