Disneyland/DCA Union Layoffs Have Begun

The union layoff notices have gone out today (got mine via email). I'm not sure if they did one big mass email or they'll be staggered throughout the week. I find the timing of it interesting that they send them out the same time they reveal the news of the Downtown Disney expansion into DCA opening up Buena Vista Street for shopping and dining.

What really s—s (layoffs s— in general of course) is the poor cast members that did return to work when they opened Downtown Disney back in July. Many (and I mean MANY) higher seniority cast members declined the call back (multiple times) to work over COVID fears (and some declined because that would mean they would have to give up the weekly $600 unemployment bonus). So many declined that HR had to dig real deep (very deep) into the lower seniority levels and even going as far as digging into Disneyland and DCA lower seniority cast members to transfer over. Of course many of them jumped at the opportunity. Turns out what's happening now is those higher seniority cast members that declined (over and over again) will be coming in to bump out those lower seniority cast members. A situation of "thanks for keeping it warm for me and enjoy your layoff!". So sad. It's funny to see all those higher seniority cast members that declined over and over now eager to get back.

There just doesn't seem to be a bottom to the rabbit hole of hell.
