There are a kind of controversial opinions across the office, meanwhile the company is laying people off, they are bringing people from another offices, plus they were saying that they are going to contract more engineers.Would somebody explain me that kind of strategies, please? Midland PIPed more good engineers than bad ones, Is that decision coming from the CEO or by the supervisors?

Many of the mid level managers have been there for years. Definitely has more of a good old boys club than anywhere else I've worked.
Good ole boys club.
I mean
Look at what is running Midland.
@vkx+17ANnv8o Agree. It is heartbreaking to see people who have been dedicated for years be targeted for reasons I don’t understand.
Remember someone being PIPd doesn’t mean they are bad. It just means in the opinion of the assessment group (not just your supervisor, the whole group as many times supervisors don’t get what they want or advocate for) they are a person the company can most afford to let go. Could be for reasons such as an overstuffed group. At the end of the day try to not be the person who is perceived to be the easiest to not have around.
Trust me each supervisor is trying to figure out how to keep as many of their people as possible but at the end of the day the study will tell them how many they get to keep.
Remember as well the company looks at the talent pool as a whole not just office by office. If there is someone with a skill the company needs to keep they will find a place for them and displace someone who has a more common skill. Try to make yourself the expert at something and make sure it is known.
Supervisors were told they had to put 8% of their people in the NSI category. Some supervisors gamed it and came in with their entire team ranked high. HR didn’t call BS on it so other groups who went in with a distribution matching what was asked were pushed down. At the end of the day someone has to be in the bottom bucket. It is a forced requirement that each bucket have a certain percentage.
For ranking your supervisor has two minutes to make the case for you. Final ranking depends a lot on if other supervisors (not your direct supervisor) support you or try push you down. Keep not only your own supervisor happy but the other supervisors in the rank session.
Agree. They certainly don’t think much of older (60+) employees either.
Supervisors opinions don’t carry much weight in Midland. The two clowns at the very top make ALL of the calls. Supervisors who push back are demoted.
