Thread regarding Raymond James Financial Inc. layoffs

Former RJ'er - Hang in there!

I worked at RJ from 2013-2016, and was laid off from a small department under some very f—ed up circumstances (of which I'll omit here), but I did want to tell you all that life goes on and I promise you'll be ok. This will be nothing but a slightly bitter memory years down the road.

When I look back, RJ treats some of their employees like dirt (usually the hard working, productive ones) and treats the useless, feckless management (and a– kissers) as golden employees. That's my take, anyways; and I still know a few people who work there and hear it's still true.

Point is - life goes on. I didn't realize how much I loathed that industry and my job until I was forced into that position. I then went into IT, and I absolutely love it and never looked back. I'm k–ling it now, working on certs, got in with a cool company, and I'm making more now than I would after many years at RJ.

There is "life after RJ". Take this time to look around at other companies, or maybe even a career/industry change. Look at it as a stressful time, sure....but the rug was pulled out from under YOU, not your fault. However, you have a chance to make big moves and seize opportunities you may not have considered before being put in this scenario.

Best of luck, you all got this.

So our severance package clearing says we can file for unemployment in the state we live in. I intend to on 10/16 right after I get my last paycheck. It is better than nothing even here in Florida and you are right those of us in our 50's and 60's still need to make money. I doubt I will find an equivalent job right now. There are massive layoffs occurring all over right now. This is starting to catch up on companies.

I agree with the comments, life goes on, but want to add that I think these current circumstances are harder because of the Covid-19, so many companies laying off people, upcoming elections and so on. For some it can take longer to find a good job because there are not that many jobs now or maybe some other reasons. There are people on their 50s and 60s who were laid off but still need to work.

That's so true. It was ridiculous to see people that new nothing become managers just because they were part of the click. Special treatment to some and complete disregard for true talent .
