Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

I hope I'm on the list

Workload is not slowing down and if anything is growing. Even if you survive the reorganization it will be absolutely brutal to keep up the pace of work that will be expected with fewer folks around. Work is NOT being removed it is being added on.

This right here is why I'm hoping to be laid off. Workload has been worsening after every round. Each time we are expected to pick up after those who were laid off. We are not robots! You can't just keep adding work to our plates without something breaking! Being laid off now seems like a preferable option.

In response to :"Bernard said that we have to prioritise and he expects that some things just won’t get done. Plus moving to the agile model should greatly improve our efficiency. So I don’t know where this bizarre idea of more work comes from!"

I knew "Bernard" years ago when he was regarded as, at best, a safe pair of hands with little imagination. His comments simply reflect the fact that he simply did a cut and paste on the pablum that began with Sir John B. and continued thru generations of senior management using key words like "agile", "increased efficiency and effectiveness", "work harder not smarter", " just quit doing things", "constructive tension", "making hard choices", etc....and in every single case they simply added on increased process, overhead and management overviews that added work on who was left.

If whoever wrote this truly believes it then they are just the sort of innocent lamb BP's current management will value and cherish until their time on the block inevitably comes.

Lol you don’t understand ... new jobs aren’t going to Asia either. The only jobs going to Asia will be manufacturing for solar cells, wind turbines etc. All manufacturing in Asia for “green energy” will balance out with the reduction of manufacturing for oil and gas. Engineerd and workers in the west on rigs, offshore platforms and refineries will not be retrained to have “green energy” jobs. But they will be replaced by other workers in the west who invest in their own training and education for green energy.

I understand the feeling, wishing to be on the list , to take the severance and move forward with a better company. But not wanting to express EOI to avoid retaliation and bee on the eye for the next layoff with less benefits. We have to keep strong and hang in there.

10k is the headline but will be 40k when it’s all said and done (including contractors)

BP has stated that it will be increasing its investment in green energy production ten fold over the coming years. Many of those "investments" will come with their own entrained staff, so there won't be additional work for BP staff to undertake.

The important conventional businesses, where agile methodologies wouldn't help, would be considered front-line and aren't subject to this restructure anyway. The danger is that experienced people from these areas will just decide to leave anyway.

Bernard said that we have to prioritise and he expects that some things just won’t get done. Plus moving to the agile model should greatly improve our efficiency. So I don’t know where this bizarre idea of more work comes from!

My goal is to leave this hellhole before I die. It is miserable at this sh– company.

I would be thrilled to be let go. This sh– company has done nothing but destroy wealth for years. Most of the employees would rather pick up roadside trash or clean airport toilets. Please, if there is a higher being, let this sh– company get bought out or go bankrupt. Have mercy on the poor souls who work in this sh–show.

What a bunch of whining people. If you feel that bad about your company, you should not be there because all you are going to do is drag it down further.

The "new BP" can go f— itself. Same b—s—, different clowns. This company is done.

Work more = yes. But the rest of your equation was wrong. You get an F-. You’ll earn less because of no bonus or raises. bp is selling St. James with plans to be completely out in 2 years. And when you work from home, you cook your own dinner on your own stove.

This really is not the attitude of the new bp: you might as well quit you pansies. Work more= earn more = more trips to st James = more dinners = less carbon.

If you really really REALLY want to go then submit your EOI. Or let your bosses know you to leave. Based on past observations if someone truly wants to go the powers that be will accommodate. No reason to be so unhappy and stay on taking up a spot that could go to someone who needs to support a family.

I hope things work out the way you want. I definitely worry about quality control, doing more with less.
