Look at the land group and you will see what I mean. 2 VPs of Land (why is there a need for more than 1), followed by unnecessary directors and managers. Makes getting documents signed almost impossible as everything has to be approved by at least 3 managers. Nepotism everywhere as well.

Agree. Too many layers and dotted lines. I work in HR as a worker bee - I don’t even know who is the head of HR because there are so many VPs! I just keep my head down because eventually someone’s going to get wise to this waste and overstaffing.
Useless layers of managers everywhere not just in land. It is every where in the company.
Those micromanaging and kiss-axxx culture is so toxic
It has nothing to do with working in the same building vs working from home. I hated working at oxy before the work from home, I just don’t have any other option in the current environment so I will stay until I can find another job. Working from home is the one decent thing oxy has done (not that they had much choice given the size of the company) in a long time. I almost consider it my raise that I didn’t get last year despite a stellar performance review and the make up oxy is giving us for the 30% salary cut. Also, with likely no or minimal bonus this year, it’s the least management could do.
Last post is right on. Maybe skip the VSP and go to the 20% unless COC prevents this and forces VSP.
Its not just land
OXY need to clean out their closet and remove the deadwood and the slackers
If people dont want to work then let them go
Have another final round of VSP for the whole company and shed 20% and move on to a brighter future
Oxy just needs to get back to working together in the same building to eliminate all of this nonsense. You will be happier when WFH ends!
Non technical groups are the same way. Just look at HR and Supply Chain as they have multiple VPs as well. Can't say I know too much on how they were put there.
Early peer mapping and responsibility comparisons had many Oxy VPs on par with Director levels at LAPC. Again it just proves that an extra layer of management is hanging in Oxy's fat upper neck.
@1bhk+1765yxYq
But many of the Oxy managers and leads are not even technically competent enough to get any work done.
Yeah, same with subsurface/development in geoscience. No one needs three geologists in the same area. It’s not that the talent isn’t good, it just shows how incompetent the managers are at figuring out their own organization. It’s a shame really. Auntie VH has done such a sh– job in getting Oxy to work without polarizing groups of people. They’ll probably just fire more workers. Eventually that’ll force the managers to do some work.
It is not just in land. The person who told you to leave has to be some sort of lead or manager, and is defending his or her title.
@o1pr it sounds like the land group is toxic because of people just like you! Why don’t you do us a favor and leave? Since you are probably a yes man middle manager, I’ll wait until Icahn does it in 2020!
What a bunch of clowns! Only at Oxy!
Hopefully Icahn comes in and cleans up shop on all these layers (both in land and other groups).
sounds like one of those useless layers you are talking about posting immediately below...LOL!
How many times can you post about how much you hate the land VPs, the layers of management and the useless middle managers? This is your life now. If you don’t like it, leave.
These layers will be removed by uncle Icahn next year following VH departure
the culture in land is horrible. It starts with both VPs and the good ol' boy culture they established.
Agreed.
