Thread regarding Marathon Oil Corp. layoffs

The office

Why are they trying so hard to get people to go back to the office with this phased approach? Anyone else experiencing constant encouragement from their supervisors to go back? Not sure what synergies are to be gained in going back at this time. Are people that are going into the office seeing a large benefit aside from they don’t want to be at home?

I really don’t understand why you guys are freaking out with all the nonsense. The “layoff.“ Ends ends in a couple days and if you haven’t heard anyone say anything about it at this point, we are obviously safe. Stop stressing out like children.

The use of the phrase "Plandemic" probably tells us all we need to know. Those foolish enough to believe conspiracy theories are foolish enough to believe that in person attendance will save them when the next layoff arrives. Will you be spared because the boss can see you nearby? Does the mower mow that grass that he can see or the grass he cannot see?

At least the people who work from home will have some b–ching home improvements to point to if they are downsized. And what will you have to point to? A sycophantic attendance on your boss? If the bus drives over the cliff, you want the seat right behind the driver.

If your manager wants a chair seat warmer tell them you can have your office chair shipped to your house and you will warm it up from 8am to 5pm (thermal thermometer can be installed in butt-cushion). Manager can download an app to monitor thermal variations. Micromanaging is all these managers are good for - they cannot review work for quality or develop staff..

Got to say I haven't missed a day since this Plandemic all started. I'd be very nervous if I was one of these that had been sitting at home most of this year. It's a little aggravating when you see co-workers pictures and hear stories about how much they've got accomplished at home while getting paid for it. Know some who went to Florida for vacation and say they only have to be able to be contacted by phone. Who knows though, none of us are safe. Will be glad when it's all over!

I disagree. All those let go were deemed dead weight by their bosses—how else do you think they were chosen???

just quit with an attitude like that... Plenty of people who didn't want to be let go were and not all were let go because they were dead weight. . Too bad the job market isn't a little better. But regardless, a pay cut will come with it, if you get what you want.

Given October 2 is only a few days away I’d say if we’re still employed then we’re “safe” from being laid off—this year at least.

Thoughts?

"Geez. It’s called work." Yeah, apparently you need micromanagement in order to do your job. Sorry, you can't get your work done remotely by yourself. Somebody up top has their head up their @$$ and doesn't like that real companies are actually embracing this new normal and allowing their employees to work remotely. Maybe the new building has something to do with it? If you can't trust your employees to work remotely with minimal supervision you don't have an employee problem, you have a hiring problem.

We all know there is no virus so let’s stop the charade. They want us back in the office to see who licks the most balls between now and performance reviews given they haven’t seen us since March.

No benefit that I have seen. Managers/Supervisors are being real pushy about this as it's supposed to be volunteer. From what I understand they are being told to get their people in the tower. I couldn't believe they encouraged employees to meet in person on that call this morning. MRO = Let's encourage people to do the main thing we're being told to refrain from because it can spread the virus. Negligent attitude.

Geez. It’s called work. And you can’t f’n do most jobs unsupervised at home. If it was the best plan ever to pay people to sit at home - it would have been done years ago. It ain’t a workin for businessEs. So get your mask and get your behind back to work !

One hand, We are told we are not forcing anyone back. On the other hand managers are being pushy about it.
