Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Return to Office

I'm concerned about returning to the office. I'm concerned not only because of COVID, but also about the fact that Enbridge does not adhere to its own value of safety.

In Ontario, cases are on the rise, indoor gatherings have been limited once again, and masks continue to be required indoors, and yet our company effectively forces people to come into work despite the tightening of restrictions elsewhere.

We are normalizing warning signs. This is one of the Human Factors Enbridge training has drilled into me and which Enbridge is forgetting.

COVID is still something to be cautious of. Some of us are tired of hearing about it, I know I am, but it is still putting people into the hospital and it is still k–ling people.

We should remember this and not normalize the warning signs. There are nearly 3000 dead Ontarians.

The justification for returning to work, that we will collaborate better and build better relationships is valid to a degree, but it is not worth the life of even a single employee or family member.

The individuals who enabled the return to office policy should stop and think about the repercussions of their actions. It may not be popular to push back against a superior, but if integrity means anything, it means exactly that.

We should all push back on the RTO policy. Not because we're scared, but because it's the right thing to do and is in keeping with Enbridge values.

Number of cases doesnt matter. Although thats what the media wants tou to believe. Positivity rate and number of new hospitalizations count. Our positivity rate is about the same after mandatory masks vs when masks were optional. You could doe of the regular flu, get in a car wreck and die on the way to work, or drop from a heart attack. Are you going ro stop driving? Eat better, exercise more? Just saying when its your time its your time. Cant live in a bottle just do what you can to minimize risk.

This may just be an easy way downsize, especially in regards to older employees!!!

If you think about thinning the herd in this manner, there would be no need for packages. The 2 times salary insurance just pays out.

If you’ve got that much of a fear of dying, don’t get out of bed in the morning. For the rest of us, the world is still spinning. People die of influenza and other communicable diseases every year, and we don’t shut the world down for that.

Compare it to our operations. We work at a company that transports a dangerous product, but we identify risks and mitigate them down to acceptable levels.

The approach to return to work is no different. We have know the risks, but life has to go on, and we put controls in place to help keep us safe. See you at the office.

The more time you spend around others, the greater chance to catch the virus. And this virus can k–l. Period.

The best thing you can do is express your concerns in regular check ins, and email your people leader sharing what was said in the original post.

I have zero concern about going back. There’s lots of protocols in place to protect us, and we’re only talking about 20-30% of people. We’re at the point where we just have to live with this virus and carry on with life. I actually prefer working from home, but I’m not upset about being asked to return.

I don't see anywhere in recent emails where the company is forcing anyone to go into the office.
The last company wide email is giving employees an option.

If you live in Ontario, the government has set out rules for employers to follow.
If the building is big enough and the 2 meters can be respected, there is no need for a mask. ( Per Health Canada and Ontario mask guidelines ).

I'm blessed to work for a company and have a job that I was able to work from home.

Millions in Ontarian can't even put food on the table right now. I'm grateful for how this company responded and mobilized and worked with employees to work from home and continue to have a full pay cheque.

The alternative, is to lay you off until COVID is over and you can live off $1750 a month the gov't hands out.

Having a max 50 people go into the office on rotation, Is great!
If your office building is a size of a bedroom and you can't walk around and stay 2 meters apart, well thats different.

Wash your hands, wear a mask when you can't physically be distance more then 2 meters apart, if you have a serious condition stay home. Don't go to bars, restaurants or anywhere else 1000s of random people go per week. Thats hows it's really spreading.
