Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Take advantage

Good thing in all of this is that Dell name still carries significant weight and it's still a major asset on your resume. If you are applying for jobs, chances are it'll be a major plus if you still work here. Now is the perfect time to take advantage of that and send out resumes because I'm not sure if this'll still be true in a few years if things continue going the way they have been.

The Dell name means nothing if not a red flag. The Dell culture is toxic and fosters c-appy behavior that other companies, good ones with a decent culture, do not want.

You must be joking. Dell does not have a stellar reputation. It depends on you and you alone.

Name doesn't matter jack sh#t, your skills do. Most tech companies has a very rigorous interview process. I was interviewed at Amazon last year. 6 back to back interview, each lasted 45 minutes. They didn't ask about my previous experience, education or anything.

Depends on location and what you accomplished at Dell. In the Austin area, many companies have soured on former Dell employees. I am not saying all, but just having Dell on your resume is not enough anymore and does not carry the weight it once did. You really have to show what you worked on and how did it contribute to the business. There have been some former Dell employees who went to other companies with a big title and had no idea how to get things done with less people and resources or they could not deliver actual results.
