Today is the day our east hump is gone. Now im wondering when our layoffs will come after. I wonder what number mister Vena has in mind since he was just here over the weekend. Our union rep aint telling us nothing. Makes you think what they are hiding.

So tell us the truth are you north platte guys sweating on how many guys getting the axe. Getting close to a new quarter. Are you guys busy or slow. It happened to us thought we was safe and boom half shop laid off. Heard vena n his crew there for couple days last week. Who has heard of his new plan? So closing a hump yard doesnt affect the employees is odd to me on tht article i read. Good luck brothers and sisters.
KY with Glass shot IT Out There
Hate to tell you, your seniority means squat. 75% of cuts @ the HDC were high seniority men and women, blatant age discrimination, but Union Pacific Pacific doesn't care, they just want to cut payroll
@2fpd So they are going to spend millions of dollars (they don’t have to spend) to outfit the facility in North Platte with the equipment to do the work Jenks does currently.......man I hope you pass your next d–g test cause the meth your smoking has got to be the good stuff....best advice is to start hoping you have enough seniority to hold a job when they finish cutting your historical location to the bone so they get their bonuses before they cash out and jump ship. Everyone on the system sees the work coming out of North Platte and quality craftsmanship is hardly ever the words used for stuff coming from there. At this point the mechanical department is only costing them money in their eyes that could go to back into their pockets, and according to you and the other North Platte mechanical posters you’ve yet to see the DEEP cuts the rest of the company has at other mechanical facilities. You might want to start TIGHTENING UP cause if the last year has shown the mechanical department anything it’s that they love money and workers cost them those precious Benjamin’s they covet.
Great news for North Platte. Vena and his buddies from Omaha still in North Platte. Word we hear is we gona start an overhaul program. Hopefully we call all our brothers back. We need alot of guys to make this work. Hopefully rumors are true and we will het plenty overtime. North Platte is our History of the RR. Sorry Jenks but hopefully we will do it all here.
Please wake up people if you don't have 15 to 20 years in some locations you are not going to have a job! I feel sorry for my co-workers not having a plan B many positions will not be necessary in the near future. Its happening right before our eyes i had a co-worker the other day say 1 man crews aren't going to happen now because the state passed a rule requiring 1 man crew. This is so far from the truth get ready people its about to get real!
There is always manifest trains parked on the main for twenty miles
Funny how all you railroaders believe that the powers that control your very soul and every aspect of your life tell you everything is just fine, keep working and giving your whole life to them, like well care for children.
I'm just waiting for the crash and burn of all of your lives and families lives for living for these demons. There's better opportunities than this, instead of working for this bunch.
You’re living in a dream world if you think they will close half the yard and not have cuts.
Heard they reopened the east hump last week. Manifest trains parked on the main for 20 miles.
Don’t get comfortable. Until the directors get the phone call to cut they don’t even know, let alone the union reps they usually find out after the call is made if not right before everyone else is told or at the same time. They’ve got a plan and it’s getting to 55 they just are waiting to pull the trigger. No amount of keeping busy, how much work you do, location or history will keep you from getting the axe if they want to cut. If the news letter was put out and paid for by the company I sure wouldn’t believe anything you read in it.
He just came n left. Hopefully will leave us alone since we keep busy and get work done. Im thinking if something big would of happened, don’t you think it would of happened by now. Like our NP article stated that employees will not be affected when east hump closes.Especially when our shop is in middle and history of the Union Pacific.
3rd quarter ending is upon us! Beware The calm before the storm! This last cut will be the deepest! Fritz, vena and the posse have visited all locations and now let the fun begin!
Yes with the UP u can work hundreds of cars and fix as many bad orders they still going to do what they want to do
We were told at our location that closing our hump wouldn't lead to job losses. We were given supposed examples of other shops that lost their hump but not employees. A year later and many, many people from our shop have been sent home. Don't believe anything you are told, because it is just designed to keep you working. You still need to do your job, because you are getting paid to do it. However, don't make the mistake of thinking the amount or quality of work you do is going to have any bearing on their decision to send people home. We did what was asked of us and it happened anyway.
East Hump has been closed for two weeks.
Yeah, give it a week and your workforce will be down 25 percent. Sad but true. If yoir Union is being quiet its because they were told to be. Doesnt sound like there telling you not to worry.
