This entire industry has never been about job security but the last couple of years have been especially bad for employees. I think anybody who cares about their state of mind and the ability to work without having to worry about their job every single day should not only leave Shell, but the entire industry. I am already working on it.

Not necessary to leave the industry, look out for gas transmssion companies
If you have 30+ working years, yeah it makes sense to leave. If you are just hanging on another decade till retirement, might as well gut it out.
Better to get laid off than leave though, for the severance. It looks like you'll have the opportunity to jump off every 2 years or so with voluntary exits.
