Latest post to employees from US Country Chair Getchen Watkins.
As a concerned employee and stockholder, Gretchen - please focus on your fiduciary duties to create shareholder value rather than catering to the latest BLM wokism. This is not the time to be virtue signaling. We don't need you jumping Shell onto the systemic racism bandwagon. Are you aware of the stock performance in the past six months? DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
Earlier this year, the tragic death of George Floyd and other Black Americans brought a spotlight to the continuing injustice and systemic racism that still exists in the US today.
Senior leaders across Shell joined me in committing to use this as an opportunity to make a real and lasting change at Shell for all our employees.
Since then, the US Country Co-ordination team, which includes the leaders of all of Shell’s US businesses, has been working to put together a plan that will make this happen. We have worked closely with our Employee Resource Groups, such as the Shell Black Networking Group, and Shell’s most senior Black leaders, to test ideas and co-create an action plan that will build a more racially diverse, inclusive and equitable workplace.
I invite you to join us for a webcast as we share the plan, discuss the commitments and hear from senior leaders across the US about how we are bringing this plan to life.
