Thread regarding Optum layoffs

DRG Auditors in the Payment Integrity Team are worried

Optum purchased Equian (A DRG auditing company) for an astounding 3.2 billion dollars. We had 80-85 auditors. We are now having 8 hours of overtime every week due to looking at every case twice. Obviously, someone above is not happy with our money coming in to the company. Optum has just hired 40 nurses from Manila. They are in the process of hiring more. They are being trained to do our job. They say the Manila nurses are just there to work on overflow. Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to find another job right now due to Covid.

Would suggest respectfully contact your politicians to ask why American workers are NOT protected and why they are being replaced by cheap foreign labor?

They did set goals for DRG audit above and beyond what could be done with existing staff, with plans to backfill in Manila. So that part I think is legit. They are trying to justify what they spent on the acquisition. I would think the DRG audit team would be unlikely to be cut in the short term. In the longer term they will always cut if they can.

What we would suggest is to: blast the happy song, put on a funny wig, dance, and do some call/response chanting at the us corporation propaganda meetings. That way, you can feel that us corporate love, and the boomers can feel excited that the company has your back......

Other parts of Optum attempted to leverage RN staffing in Manila and they’ve pulled back most of those positions after 1-2 years due to performance issues or just not getting the same amount of productivity. Keep your head down while you look for another job and make sure you report any errors you see in the work from the overseas resources.

It’s actually not hard to find a job right now. I was part of the June wave and had an offer in 5 weeks for more $$$. It’s all about attitude and working your LinkedIn- so don’t be afraid.
