this is where farmers come and say we been farming since 2021, been fun while at it. good job to fellow farmers
EM is really doing things without decency. At least offer voluntary package so that people can appreciate. One side no voluntary package, one side pip people and force them to leave even after working 20 years for EM.
WTF.
The money they save by doing such sinful stuff is cursed, whoever gets dividends from this money will be cursed for generations.
Don’t waste time already lah… do everything you can to prepare for your next career. I don’t trust anyone now. Anything you say, will be used against you. Be careful of what you say now to your “friends”… with ranking. Everyone is a secretly hoping to see you and your family down… who doesn’t like a s-b tale.
I enjoyed it ALOT during the last layoff. I am sure many that survived echo my sentiments. Lol. We had a farewell for them btw…
The moment you are identified to be retrenched. Your value goes down to zero. Forget about your wealth accumulation. Plan for your wealth preservation especially those with heavy financial commitments.
It was Wed am, 1 Oct. We all received an email at around 10pm on Tue night, about an "important announcement" the next day. The email came right at about the same time when Brussels was making their announcement.
We could tell it was a very last minute decision to announce, and even the function leads were caught by surprise. Since Singapore was the last of HC10 to be impacted, we speculated that global just then decided to ride on the timing of announcements in Canada and Brussels barely 36 hours ago, instead of waiting for another opportune time, like when we divest retail.
Key changes by end 2027:
1) 10-15% of workforce to be cut, excluding manufacturing non-MPT folks. It's not a targeted work force reduction, hence the estimate. At a maximum, it is estimated that about 500 jobs, or 1 out of 3 MPTs, will go
2) Closure of Harbourfront office in central Singapore. Everyone who makes the cut are to work from the Jurong refinery or Jurong Island complex in the far West of Singapore. This includes home-based employees. Depending on where you live, commute can be two hours each way
3) SOP1 (olefins cr--ker) to be mothballed by 1Q26
4) It was clarified in the Q&A that there is no voluntary redundancy; but people who leave will be paid severance
5) Every person will be notified of their fate by mid-Dec. Between now and then, the respective functions will work out the numbers and plan out their leftover organizations. Emphasis was made that we'd know latest by mid-Dec, so likely we will know earlier.
6) Selection of people that stay is based on performance, skills and fit for new org.
There's a long lead time to transition this, 2 years by end 2027. Right now we don't know who is impacted, how many people will leave in each function, what the severance package will look like, or when the first batch will leave. No details were given by function, unlike in 2021, where scripts were rehearsed and they had already work the numbers when they made the country announcement.
Mood in office is a mix of sadness, caution and relief, as people digest the news. It is a shock to all because, unlike in Canada or Europe where there were leaks for months in advance, in Singapore we were constantly told future cuts would only happen through sale of assets, PIPs and natural attrition. There were resignations in the last one year, that would not have happened if they had heard of a possible cut with severance package.
Many asked during the Q&A about voluntary severance, so obviously a significant group would want to voluntarily leave. Maybe more than 500 people! But similar to what we heard of in the UK and Australia, there's no voluntary offered. With other upcoming changes like retail divestment, the footprint in Singapore will shrink more than just the 500 jobs impacted in this exercise. More to come. It's a blessing to get out with severance.
@870m your appraisal is based on your work performance how much value you add. No how many mcs you take 😂😂😂 you can use up your mc and still help the company churn out margin and still get promoted. Cmi means cmi
@86zg agreed totally with this. I was having lingering shoulder issue but didnt took action as i do not want to clock up MCs and affect my appraisal.
In the end i was still PIP-ed. Ownself before Company la. Once u r the target board no matter what u do is useless.take care ownself first
@870h snitching rat
Someone just self exposed themselves. Don't know the overview of what's going on but wanna act like big dog talking about sales of this and that. That is why sg still got fats to cut, thanks for taking 1 for the team
Gosh. Everyone is so negative here! I encourage you to look at the brightside of life! There are many things we can be thankful for! I love my colleagues, I wear my Mobil1 racing polo tee with pride!
@86w1 don’t be naive la… SAR2 is a jewel for the corporate. If not for SAR2, CRISP is doom la. Linde is useless.
@86ys sorry you have BO and bad breath with black finger nails. Your only option after retrenchment is GrabFood and phv.
The hr will also be last fired after firing us
Yes, asking people to leave now so you get higher chance to get severance. Reverse the reverse game
Covid taught us that with or without your contributions. It doesn’t matter to the EM.
My plan is to take advantage of all the benefits we have. Making sure we are prepared for anything that comes.
Have you been procrastinating that injury you are facing? Good. Take action and make that appointment to fix it. It is our rights!
This chain would be so good for us to support one another through the long transition, exchange news of impact coming across different functions, process and digest changes. But it's so distasteful and disgusting for female colleagues when people don't use EDMW and troll language, and run this chain down.
Let us be mature. The company doesn’t owe you a living. End of each month, you get your salary in exchange for time.
Do not think that this is forever and make EM your home. You are just an employee and a number (your employee number) in the database.
Me ish waiting to beo all the chio bu corlick MPT from hbf...piak these OLs in their high heels... they tell me their high class stories about HBF and while piaking I tell them how real men work here here...haha
DW say Exxon is profitable even at $50 crude. Now U believe?
for those who interacted with kltc folks u would know that our local engineers are more competent (prob due to background and got plant experience), but that doesn’t stop mgmt from moving the jobs there! Same for other areas as well like Jndia. Pui!
@86w3 support functions very high risk. It is logical right? GSC can do a better job with a fraction of the price.
to all engineers and technicians, pls start looking elsewhere. It’s not worth staying here no matter how high the salary is. Do not trust a word that the management says. I hope that there’s a mass resignation till the point that supervisors have to do all the dirty work. Only then will they realise how useless they are and should be the ones getting cut.
And how many non citizens are working here?
All Foreign talents should go. They can develop in their own countries. Singapore doesn’t need them now. We don’t even have enough jobs for ourselves.
Those impats (expats in SG) from China and India should be first one to go back. They taking our jobs here at higher pay. They can develop themselves in their own country.
500 is only conservative estimate, actual numbers could be much more, excluding those fall into PIP for both mpts and nmpts
Get those Superintendents out first la. Day day walking around smoking talk rubbish. Farming their high pay only. Extras like those sg mayors
Their dream is no engineers, outsource T and E to btc and kltc. If you know that, you can play the same game as them
jvp should just retire alr. they should combine MLT to make mfg more efficient! send back all the extap management please doesn't help with the situation and only know how to make engineers/technician rage quit
Can EM follow Schlumberger example and fire senior management....
Sad to see the company in this sorry state, it’s unprecedented. Hope there is light at the end of the tunnel
@86w2 i was in the company over a decade. And over the times have seen mutlitple times how heartless and despicable they can be.
Covering up of injuries to keep KPI in check; thinking of ways to avoid payments for work related injuries; forcing people out with despicable tactics, especially with old timers.
FYI, i am already not with EM anymore. U can treat it as my grudge towards the company ot whatever that makes u happy. You do u. Have a great day.
Anyone know which department will be fully offshore next to India?
@86vx so noble Sia. Say until like some matyr. Cannot find a better paying job say la. You know u can’t find a job out there and that’s the truth 😂😂
Downsize all the way, potentially sar2 on sales if got buyer
Yeah keep stirring about what happened after leadership hot mic incident La. It's all talk until you share exactly what they said
We entered the Company, hoping to carve out a career, or at the very least of a good paying job to provide for our family. We gave our time, sweat and sometimes even blood to ensure the operation of the Company. We grind through the tough times, deal with ridiculous, unreasonable managers, endure being looked down by the 3rd world foreign talents, sacrificing our personal health and family times when the Company "needs" us. Countless events when the ground is working tirelessly, all while believing its worth it.
But the truth is, the Company never really cares. Their speech is crafted to show care, but its never in their heart. Anyone who is not in their circle can be disposed of anytime to protect their own interest. Believe that Refinery manager doesnt know this retrenchment is coming? Believe that when the DHs said that we r a family? Belive that SLS committed in helping your PIP?
Wake up people. Majority, not all, are at that level simply becuase they are ruthless. They can step on anyone to reach that level.
Wake up people. Do not place hope that if you work even harder you will be spare. Cherish your time and mental well being. Start something outside of EM even if u r still in EM,dun be naive and when your time is up, u have something to fall back on
When will the official first round happening or are they regurgitating their old playbook of pip the he-l out of everyone?
All are fakely positive
