Thread regarding Ricoh layoffs

Happy IKON Buy Out Anniversary !!!

Coming up on 12 years since the IKON purchase. Was the ROI on that better than 12 years of $1.6 billion compounding in a basic savings account?

Any stakeholder that wants to understand what ricoh is all about need only take close look at the ikon purchase and subsequent aftermath. This was a total gift to Canon.

Ricoh execs were telling legacy reps how great this would be, a great win for everyone. That “Canon blinked” and Ricoh won the ikon auction. What a load. You’d think they’d learn but just kept buying 2nd-3rd rate companies. Dealers? Cameras? Garage band IT MSP? What % of YOUR DIRECT head count is supporting your IT services? Nope! Photo finish between ricoh and xerox for race to the bottom.

Ricoh’s downfall began when it purchased Savin and Lanier. The downward direction was finalized when it purchased IKON. IKON management took over Ricoh and destroyed its heart and soul. So any mistakes by Ricoh Limited and anointed IKON management. It’s remarkable it has survived so long.

Ricoh had no clue what they were doing with these acquisitions. They threw money at a problem and thought that buying market share would work. They bought failing companies instead of growing organically and consolidating their business. If they had not bought these companies, they would have gained some of their customers when the companies failed without spending a dime. Even better, maybe the competition would have bought them and taken them down.

I think it depends on who you talk to. Either way, the merge did nothing to better the company as a whole.

Who took who down the toilet? Ricoh took IKON or IKON took Ricoh?

They buyout Ikon and take it down the toilet. Look at all the customers and employees that have left since then. Sad to say the least.
