Thread regarding Disney layoffs

Info sources on Cuts

I hear all these rumors of layoffs coming but haven’t heard anything from management. Will this affect corporate jobs or those working in the Parks themselves ?

I’m thinking if they lay-off now, a year from now they’re going to be hurting for employees when demand picks up

Yeah for lower level cast members like me, by the time they let me know I’m laid off, I’ll have no job, no money, and a lonely holiday season.

I wanted to call this my forever home for my career

We aren't going to know anything until it happens. If there is any concrete info about layoffs determined yet, the people who know them are too high up on the food chain to post on this forum.

I wish my leader would have been honest (at least by June), and recommended that I start looking for a job. She has been back for several months.

For Parks & Resorts hourly cast won’t be laid off until April 2021 since that was the commitment to the unions, and even if you don’t belong to a union they will keep with that since the 50th Anniversary is next year.

For Salaried and O&T they have already seen that many are beginning to find other jobs so likely they won’t offer packages. Unless your area isn’t open yet (DCL, or an unopened resort) don’t expect a callback until April. If tourism hasn’t rebounded by then, the layoffs will happen.

Unfortunately, the "demand" for people to return to the parks has just not been there this Summer. That's why the parks in Florida are reducing their hours beginning next month (September). Until there is a vaccine and people can feel they have a chance at being safe, most won't come.

Two things that keep me fairly optimistic about being called back: 1. DCP and PI cast members will not be back until @mid-2021 or later Disney will need more and more experienced cast members as time moves along. and 2. WDW MK's 50th Anniversary is next year Disney fans will want to experience WDW in 2021. To be clear though, I'm thinking 50/50 chance as I'm a hourly staffer. To my hardworking, exceptionally talented cast members still on furlough, if the worst happens and we are laid-off, let's not say we are being fired. When I think of my team and others teams I have worked with, EXCEPTIONAL is the right adjective to use.

Ah man this is depressing. Everyday I dread getting a call or email that I’ll be fired. I wanted to work here for a long time ...

I know that people who work in IT who have not been ask to come back from furlough will most likely be laid off. The only reason I know this is because my previous boss asked me if there are any positions in my current company for some of my previous co-workers. And to be in the look out if there is any job openings. So it is quite obvious as to what is coming down the pipeline.

There's lots of speculation out there because everyone is connecting the dots, especially if you were around during the 2009 layoffs. Anyone with details isn't going to divulge them for fear of getting terminated. Personally, I feel that if you are in a Guest-facing position, you have a better chance of dodging a layoff bullet because of anticipated demand down the road.
