or does it seem like employee morale has never been worse? And this is not due to the pandemic and all that c-ap. It just seems like people are fed up with all the nepotism, and bad decisions, and manager abuse that they've just given up. It's like I'm working with a bunch of robots lately...

I agree, as we really got hosed in GoM, compared to many others. I know many LAPC'ers who happily took the VSP and CoC and have started elsewhere. Meanwhile, we never had that opportunity, and morale is just horrible, as Oxy is a horrible company with horrible managers. I can't wait for the market to turn around a bit and many of us can leave for good.
Morale is low in the GUlf of Mexico BU. It has been a shock going from a culture of trust, communication and servant leadership to lack of communication, distrust and micromanagement. It’s like going from an opulent mansion to an 10x12 cell.
Do you want better morale? Start with yourself. Stop reading the trash on this site.
OXY Should fire all middle managers its total waste.Drain the swamp.
No the grass is a tinge of yellow at other companies. But at Oxy it’s scorched.
I see karma troll has inserted himself in here again. Such an unhealthy obsession and vendetta against OXY.
Actually, I have never worked for a company that would cause me to write things like you do. When I felt bad about a company I would just leave. First mistake you made was falling in love with Oxy in the first place and letting it control your life. Kind of like leaving an old partner in that you have to let it go. Come on Man!!
Think about it.
You people persecute, bully and victimize others for being born differently (Its a favorite Oxy past time). You cost them their job, their career and affect their family and health. THEN you have the mentality that what you have started ends when you cost your victim their job and career. You actually think you can get away with it without consequence.
If I was part of that, I would have low morale too. Only the most delusional of people would think that what you have started is over and that you are entitled to get away with it. I'm guessing, like so many other examples, you people will only have a problem with it when you victim comes back to cost you the same.
Since they started paying full salary again, I have no complaints. No doubt mistakes were made, but management is being aggressive about handling our debt burden, cautious about the pandemic, and oil has started recovering much earlier than I would have expected, so I'm optimistic about the future. I talk to enough friends at other companies in the industry to know that the grass is not always greener.
Maybe People are just back down to the baseline level of unhappiness. This is the “glass empty” view.
Maybe it’s you or your team?
Morale has been high in my group since salaries are back. People are working harder, complaining less. Look at how quiet this board is and you can tell people are happy.
I feel the same as some of the below. Since we got our salary back I am a little better. Working from home is great for me, and I don't have the added stress of dealing with kids and their well being in regards to school. I feel for those parents when we have to go back to the office, if they don't have the school and daycare thing worked out. It would be nice to be able to take a few days off and actually have somewhere to go without the virus worry. Just being stuck around the house all the time is tough. For now things are just as good at Oxy as other places. I still get a check and get 401K, retirement, and insurance during these times. Plus, every other company is in the same boat. Exxon and Chevron the shining stars of the oil business are letting people go by the thousands. Smaller companies like Nobel and Chesapeake are going to be no more soon. There are just tough times all over, and it would be nice to hear from the top every now and then. The only person I ever hear anything from is my direct manager who is a great boss. Nothing really ever comes down from the higher ups. It would be nice to hear a little from them hear and there. Then throw on the politics and the virus and things outside work are just bad. Our major cities being torn apart is very depressing to see where we are as an overall society.
Us vs them mentality? Hard not to when I got a 30% pay cut and my APC peer only got a 4.9% pay cut. Same job. Same title. Now how is that fair? Also the lack of IT integration is frustrating and always hearing “our way is better”. Now that’s leadership for ya. Who bought who again? APC/Oxy people leave with a great deal and it’s only the remaining Oxy people that pick up the additional work load - not APC. How many people’s work have you picked up? Damn. APC had some great lawyers and management to give them that COC. If only Oxy management....,
Since salaries have been reinstated, I’ve been more positive. Seeing how Exxon’s been handling things also reminds me the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
It is the coronavirus that is dragging people down in general. The despair of not knowing when the irresponsible id–ts in the US will start social distancing is present in most of the population. You can’t go out to eat, go to the movies, get on a plane, go to a party, etc without risking your life and other people’s life's.
The other item dragging us down is the work from home necessity. It is great when it is your choice but when it is forced it generates stress. Oh yes, forgot about the virtual schools and the pending election.
On the positive side we can still get a whataburger if you don’t mind waiting in line.
We're working at a decaying company, in a dying industry.
