Tons of work where, stack pit will be done september ish hand tape september ish, or are you one of the ones that believe everything our illustrious union says, why last week did the ba say theres layoffs coming but he doesn't know when but this week all of a sudden the stewards and board members know exactly when, hmm maybe because that's what they are being told to say. Thats exactly what the battery plant folks were told. They know whats going on layoffs are coming. Why is it the ba is telling people in buckets 2 to 300 are gone why is it the ba is telling guys in the windstand November. Its really funny how 1 day they don't know then 4 days later they know it all

@kmd+16n6YykR, I agree with all posting here, but my guess is the union will be right about no layoffs until next year because of bumping, training in new roles, etc.

I agree with the union being less involved and not communicating what so ever, instead they tell the stewards and board members to give generic answers like no layoffs until next year or we have 50 generators from now and all of next year which anyone that pays attention knows that isn't the case but I'm sure the union support is being overwhelmed with what they are hearing that they were all just told to give a generic answer. Which is funny because 3 board members and a steward are all saying no layoffs until next year, but the business agent said last week layoffs are coming he just doesn't know when. Funny how all of a sudden they know without doubt there's nothing happening this year but the business agent wasn't even sure when last week.

@hiz+16n6YykR, that's completely possible if the math supports it. If the labor cost advantage of producing in say India (assume the power units aren't being imported back to the US) is "x", then if the current wage in Schenectady - Minimum Wage (maximum amount that could be saved) x impacted employees doesn't reach "x", then yes GE could could say the decision is fait accompli. Meaning there is no offer the union could make to overcome that math and GE's decision.

Its not just possible, its already been done! Talk to one of the cmte members, one of the many un-elected folks that where assembled to negotiate our future!!
Meanwhile, the opportunity for hundreds of millions of dollars of product from building #66 is just around the corner and there isn't even a peep from any elected officials? Zero desire to engage in work that they have zero knowledge on, and zero desire to listen to those that actually know what's going on, because they are not part of the gang. Building #66 received a $143 Million Dollar order a cple weeks ago, and there wasnt even a peep about it. IF you dont know about something, pretending it doesnt exist doesnt make it go away! The need to add drastic head count soon is a real possibility, if you actually cared about your membership, you would be highly engaged with the business that may add to you membership rolls! Maybe come this fall we will end up with a slate of adults that actually want to work together for the membership and cast aside those that are just looking to get out of working for a living!!!

Bargaining is all over. GE already told the committee that the work was going and nothing can or will be done about it! Someday the hall will produce communications to its members and everyone will be at least advised the truth so rumors can be limited! Dont know what generation thats gonna happen, but some day it will!

Once GE gives notice of the TOW, the union first gets to negotiate around the "decision" itself. The union can't stop the transfer of work but could offer concessions (rarely if ever does this happen) that might cause GE to reconsider. Then the parties move on to talk about "effects", meaning with the "decision" now made, how the layoff itself will occur dealing with nuances that may not be it the contact and addressing any special concerns either party may have. I'm guessing August 11th is the deadline for "effects" bargaining.
