Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Management get treated differently

I retired recently, but still keep in touch with old colleagues - many are friends and even neighbors.

I remember at least 2 occasions when they talked about how compensation was set. At the working level, they compare salaries with a mix of employers... presumably this mix includes workers from low-paid jobs as well, apart from other oil companies and such.

And they always concluded that ExxonMobil employees at the lowest levels were overpaid.

At the senior management level though, their position was that these are highly specialized jobs that are difficult to do and they need to retain these brilliant, visionary folks. To do this, they compared salaries with the highest paid industries... and concluded that these fine folks are underpaid. The poor folks. Oh my...

If any of these fine visionaries are asked to leave, I am sure they will get nice golden parachutes for steering the company so well through these tough times. It must have been rough for them. Indeed.

That is a problem. Quarterly performance is not keeping the best of the best. They are keeping who they “like” and drinking buddies.

  • but all the DH and higher ups will still continue to collect quarterly stock bonuses. They can deny it but they definitely get this. They rest easy in their mansions in Carlton woods, inner loop, and the galleria.

So next time your supervisor complains about the cost of something mention how it feels to still get a bonus while the rest of us left over get railed. DRY

Don’t worry. When “nasty” hits the fan, everyone will be in survival mode.. Internal battle royal will begin, then again I think it has begun. Let’s sit down, relax (not too much, as you may lose your job next assessment as well) and enjoy the ride down.. they will be affected to. Cash reserve seems to last Darren Woods less than a year.. he has to cut..

Maybe the solution is Continuous Performance Assessment done quarterly to keep the best of the best.
