Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

America and offices

All GBS employees in Naperville were told they will be let go, obviously the petrochemical business was sold, ultimate leaving very few people left at the Naperville campus that is way oversized to begin with. Rumor is that ineos has no interest in the purchasing the campus too. Any thoughts on the campus likely being closed and where the labs and people based there would go?

What is happening down in Houston?

Also heard that only 2k of the 10k getting let go will come out of the UK, I get the feeling that the US employed are going to get slashed the hardest.

Thoughts?

Not much spoken in Houston. Many are taking the EOI. After yesterday’s announcement it’s clear exploration will disappear or get reduced to a minimum. Not much gossip going around, but the announcement does not feel like a long term winner.

Can confirm the “initial” 10,000 cut does NOT include cuts due to sale of Petro Chem or any other sale. Also just guessing but I think the “Darren Woods” name is a joke by the author of that crude and inappropriate comment. Hey “Darren” your anger is understandable but this forum gives a good place to say those frustrations in a better way. Saying crude things could get this forum taken down. Besides Darren Woods you got Exxon to run and I’m sure things are busy there, although a site more successful than our tanking company.

No they didn’t buy Naperville, they have the option to if they’d like but haven’t. The rumor was that they have till the end of September to decide

I meant to type “I heard Ineos is buying Naperville” - damn autocorrect!

Yes it looks like most of the headcount reduction will come from the US. Remember, the loss of people from the petchem sale is not included in the 10,000 people to be let go this year. I heard India was buying Naperville, but maybe I misunderstood. Also I have seen some strange movements among executives based in Chicago, which makes me wonder if they are being told that our Chicago offices will be essentially closed and consolidated in Sunbury, St. James and Houston.
