Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Is anybody surprised by this?

People who were hoping to get permanent WFH are in "luck," I guess?

Dell confirmed this week that it was laying off some employees, while at the same time VMware confirmed it will be reducing salaries for employees who choose to relocate and permanently work from home.

like most of the things, depends on who your manager is. I know of several people in the NSBU team, who had to work from Pune for more than an year due to H1B issues ( Six years +) and still got paid their local PA salary.

VMware has always had a zone based pay chart, and as far as I'm aware, has generally always done comp adjustments (even if only delaying future increases and RSU topups) when employees move from a high cost to a lower cost zone, and has always taken zone into consideration when making offers to new hires. This just wasn't a particularly transparent policy before, but everyone on my team (which has always had heavy remote-only headcount) have encountered it when moving.
