WFH

How many of you honestly believe that people are taking advantage of WFH to slack off? I know I've never been more productive primarily because I want to prove that WFH works in hopes of seeing it extended indefinitely. There are probably some who are taking advantage of the system but I think they're a minority.

I am way more productive at home for the following reasons.

1). 2 hours saved each day not commuting in terrible Houston traffic
2). 21st century collaboration on Microsoft teams (finally OXY joins the 21st century)
3). Focusing on work since I am not worried about my safety
4). Not having people drop by my office to chat due to the open door policy
5). Avoiding micromanaging from OXYs 30+ useless layers of management

Seriously I agree. Too many people living in the past. Work from home is a thing, get over it or retire boomer. You probably think this virus is a hoax similar to your thoughts on climate change. Ignorance on all levels.

Total middle level manager comment below. This person is really upset they can’t micromanage as they do in the office. People like you make people like me HATE working at oxy. If we can get our job done from home, oxy should keep us safe and let us continue working from home.

They should not be doing surveys of employees for WFH. This is like asking young children what time they should go to bed. At some point the company should just make the decision and people either follow the policy or leave unless they have a doctors note documenting their medical reasons for not coming in. Other valid reasons might be the need to care for dependents by a single person supported by signed statements and other applicable documentation. None of this “I don’t feel like coming in just to put face time in”.

When I was working from the office it was 40 hours at the office and then 10 to 20 hours from home. I expect that most people who work from home if they have a real job should be putting in more than 40 hours, especially if they are working with field ops or international people. This should drive just about anyone nuts to not have a break from work. The only relief is to go into the office to get a break in routine.

By the way if people are only putting in about 4 hours a day and getting paid for 8 hours a day then they shouldresign immediately.

I'm not slacking off, I work with jerks who don't give me a break. I would like to return to office to work less and put a hard stop at 5PM, seriously.

WFH is the way to go. But VH panicked when she realized the employee survey showed most of us want WFH. Oxy old school of micromanage people is designed for office environment and open door, thats why she said “we want to bring back the bulk of our employees”. I am very thankful Oxy hasn’t expose us to the virus by bringing us back to the office, where is takes just a couple of weeks for anyone to catch it and test positive. It is not like they are afraid of lawsuits, how can you prove you got the virus at the office? I am sure they will take office re closure as a loss and VH doesn’t like to lose, like we realized with the Anadarko deal or sports she follows

Show that you are not slacking of by moving the stock up and giving us the dividend back. That is the whole purpose of a public company. You are not in the oil business but in the money business. Or didn’t they tell you that.

I believe they are, because I am. But I guess that makes me kind of biased.
