Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Not a BA Employee here: what happened?

I am not an employee. My spouse was. I know some of the water cooler conversation that happened few years ago through my spouse and it was just like regular office gossips. No surprises there.
But all these spotlights in the news about bad quality year over year is concerning.
What is going on here? What happened to Boeing? Bad hiring? Bad attrition?
The way BA is managing its production quality, I bet people will be favoring non-Boeing aircraft over a good seat or ticket price when shopping for air tickets.

Most of these quality problems started over 20 years ago under Phil Conduit. I saw it in Philadelphia at the Space & Defense division. It's just finally raising its ugly head in a very dramatic way over the last 3 to 5 years. Time to get back to the "Fundamentals"!

Boeing is like the Chrysler of aerospace, everything they build is junk, KC-46, Max, 787 and that stupid Lunar Lander, and I'm sure the 777X is loaded with defects...Boeing deserves everything that happens to them.

Boeing bought into the Hub-n-Spoke model of airline operations. So, Boeing built large aircraft to service that model. What people really wanted was city-to-city travel, Not Small city to major city to major city to small city travel, causing higher costs and terrible inconvenience. Bombardier, for instance, built smaller aircraft that were significantly cheaper to buy and operate that could serve point to point flights. Boeing has become a large aircraft dinosaur. They didn't manage the industry or themselves very well, so they are facing extinction with massive layoffs already in progress.

It starts with our kids are getting dumber. They need to use a calculator for everything. Dumb kids = dumb engineers = poorly built products.
So parents need to invest in their kids education by sitting down with them and teaching them the basics. Forget playing video games or watching movies. I hate to say this but covid-19 has brought a great opportunity to sit down with your kids and teach them. Help them strengthen their areas of weakness in math and science. USA is a wealthy country with all the opportunities. So are you going to do something about it or are you going to sit back and wait till China rules the world in every single field from engineering, health care, manufacturing to agriculture. You have the power to make a difference in your child's future.
If Boeing has been having problems within the past 10 years, then think about what's difference from how it was 10 years ago to what it is now. I can tell you, we didn't have as much software 10 years ago compared to what we have now. The chips we buy from other companies need to be tested a million times when we are talking about human life, but perhaps they aren't. The code we write needs to be reviewed and the requirements need to be translated correctly into design. Hopefully, the override switch works like it should and not be dependent on any software (and the hardware better work as well). Perhaps we are moving too fast on technology to beat competition and make money like the greedy people we are.

Oh god, I remember the Big Rocks thing.
They put up posters all over our office area about it.

The greatest irony is how 5 or 6 years ago, they had a slew of posters up about, "Things are great now, but what about in the future?"
They made sure it got worse rather than better. Always focusing on the dollars rather than the quality that airlines came to us for, rather than getting the cheaper airbus.
If they make the Boeing jets cheaper and cheaper, there won't be much reason for anyone abroad to buy them since Airbus is right next door.

I don't know what happened but for the past 10 years or so we were told constantly that we need to build airplanes cheaper and faster in order to survive against Airbus and others trying to take the market share. We were told that we need to have 50 percent of the market share, otherwise we will not survive. People who pay attention to small details are considered to be wasting company's time and money. Things got so bad, just before the MAX crashes, we were asked to change our mindsets and focus on "big rocks".
