I was one of those let go last week. I’m still reeling from the shock. I believed this company provided a strong sense of job security - but I was proven wrong. Pulled countless weekends to meet deadlines and for what? I feel like I was kicked to the curb while doing my “walk of shame”. This has given me a lesson that will remain with me for the rest of my life.

The lovely blue RIF ( your being laid off and your position will be terminated on Oct 27 2020 ) folder handed to us on that beautiful San Diego early Tuesday morning was NOT handled properly by the HR representative we did NOT get to ask any questions
NO introduction as to who she was or even her name less asked
She gave us a sheet to sign told us were laid off with a brief explaining and requested our badge.

Unfortunately business is business and only looking at no.'s.Good employees get caught up in it too. It happened to some that were not as needed as others . Its all sad when ppl get laid off. I too was on that list ,it made me sad but I know I have to pick up the pieces and pray I can find a good job.
I was surprised as to the high amount of brown and black people that were laid-off. my supervisor told me "white privileged and was told that typically brown and black were the weakest link"! the department I’m associated with had no people of color in management and promotions to supervisor are based on who you know rather than talents. Now speaking in an overall picture, these layoffs had to happen, projects were slow and a large amount of people charging to overhead. This is not a healthy sign when a company relies on Government contracts and it’s how the defense industry works. So, to those hurt welcome to reality! Now there is a reason why GA always held to the standard, to “not layoff”. And it’s a love hate relationship with one concept, WAR!!! GA was born out of this concept and their success was based on their products usefulness in k–ling America’s enemies. Though, this is a flawed concept in the grand scheme of things, and it has a lot to do with GA ASI lack of innovation. Their UAV’s are designed to operate in uncontested airspace, this is all fine but when you add countries such as China, Russia and Iran. You have a big problem, a country that has a means to shot down our UAVs literal nullifies the usefulness of the product. We saw this when Iran downed a UAV in June of last year. Contested airspace requires new ideas and a complete reset in how a company designs their products. GA ASI failed to envision a future where their products can be viable in a more complicated theater. To this day they still are investing large amounts of your tax dollars to beef up their old platforms even though the Airforce wants a stealthier UAV. That’s not smart ingenuity and will eventually hurt them in future contracts. Take a look at how military aviation progressed since WW2, we didn’t stay with the same products over the years we build upon a foundation of innovation! Innovation has always been the hallmark of any success story and we are already seeing companies answer the call to produce more stealthier UAVs. GA ASI VP just released a concept of the replacement for the MQ-9, its looks nice on paper but they neither have the budget and experience to create such a platform. Furthermore, their concept looks nearly identical to their competition. This is proof that GA still lives in the past and they have no compass guiding them to the future. The skills and talents required to create the next generation UAV were laid off a few weeks ago. If the owners of this company want to be competitive please address the nepotism that takes place in the different departments. It’s a fact that some people who were in bad standing with the company were let go, “completely understandable”. It should also be known that a good amount of GA best and brightest were also let go simply because they were not friends of supervisors and managers… also nearly all of those laid off were California natives and the ones left are from out of state and have expressed a desire to leave California. that’s extremely sad and the hiring process cost money. Money the company cannot afford to spend in trying to define its future and competitiveness. I Truly enjoy working for GA ASI but the (OWNER/important peoples) need to know this…
And they will continue to do so. They are privately held, not a publicly traded corporation.

i'm sorry about what happened to you, there were a lot of good employees that were not retained because of the nepotism and horrible management that defines General Atomic's. i recall in many years of being with GA company of all the preaching that went on about job security i overheard a colleague talk about layoffs and didn't think too much about because of the companies culture to "not layoff". Now I'm struggling to find a job with my skillet, i wish i would of listened and just started the job search back in March. I was a devoted employee with no negatives on my record there were many people with good records let go because management wanted to protect their family members, buddies and favorites. there should be laws to protect hard workers from that type of culture in a company. people should email their government Representative to let this be known that a company is being allowed to operate like this.
