I have done home transcription for over 20 years and have worked for this company Aquity (formerly Edix, Spheris and Mmodal) , accommodating many many supervisors and QA folks every whim, making around $20 an hour(based on production) before the industry switched to "editing" computer-generated text when they dropped my line rate based on their assumption that it would take me much less time to clean a document than to produce one. Simply not so. My hourly dropped to $14 an hour overnight. I have strived to create shortcuts and methods to bring my pay back up to around $15 to $16 an hour, minimum wage in my state. With all the knowledge this job requires, this is insulting. When Covid happened I volunteered for part time to save work for others. Yet, last week I got a call from my supe saying my position was eliminated due to Covid. Yet another slap in the face. Thanks a bunch Aquity or whatever you call yourself next week.

Exactly what happened to me. It's all about the money. They do not care one wh-t about people.
I worked for this company for 34 years and my position was also eliminated "due to COVID." I also was at the top of the wage scale, lost an enormous amount of money when transcription changed to "editing" and they were not generous at all with pay raises. When I started with this company I already had 4 years experience as a medical transcriber. So with 39 years of experience, it makes no sense why they would eliminate my position, someone who is highly skilled and efficient. Guess it all comes down to MONEY, more for the big executives who sit behind desks and do nothing. They also monitor your keystrokes and foot pedal time to make sure you're constantly working, but because they pay on "amount of production" and not an hourly wage, it really makes no sense for them to critique employees in that way.
